Rowland Now Holds Majority or Only Four Votes Over Malone. Iowa City, Dec. 17 (Special) Twenty-two votes gained by Mike Malone in the continued contest proceedings on the office ot sheriff at the court house yesterday make the fight for the place between Evan Rowland, successful by a margin of 26 on the face of the official returns, and Mr. Malone, Democratic challenger, narrow Tlown to one of extreme interest Rowland now holds a majority of only four votes. The sensation of the contest was discovered yesterday when it was found that an error in Union township resulted in Malone gaining 13 votes.

The error seems to have been in the counting up or copying in the poll books and not in the actual counting by the officials. Manchester, Dec. 17. Jay Turner was shot with a .32 caliber revolver at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Kate Decklar in the north part of town and has been unconscious ever since. The bullet passed very close tothe heart and little hope of his recovery is entertained.
