AULT, Clerk. WOMAN'S WEAR. For general wear black stockftigs still have the call, both with high shoes and low black ones, while with colored slippers or ties the stocking must exactly match. Black, taa, white and gray are the only -allowable colors In gloves just now, but as there Is no limit as to shades aud tones the hand of the period is by no means monotonous. Black velvet mantles are again in fashion, and are cut in redingote form with long poiuted sleeves falling quite to the hem, and no end of ornament iu tlie way of flue jet passementerie.

VF ord comes from Paris that the wrap must be either short or long, and the uubappy medium that for several winters now has mails havoo with the fine long lines that are woman's chiefest beauty will lie seut severely to the rear. Among the highest of winter's high novelties must rank the sleeveless Fiptro jacket of seal or Fersiuu lamb, very short and square cornered, to bo worn over cloth or velvet costumes when the occasion deiiiiilids Imt ttio faiutest of worm wraps. Though Paris has not quite given up the bustle, it is very small and modest, barely a ripple below the waist now, and if there is any dra)iery it must escajie the faintest sus picion of buucbiness, and How or c.ilig in the most truly claasic tiwuiou. The women who dress well on least money have, it is said, given in their adhesion to seal plush as the stuff for a general utility wrap, ami, if It must undergo hard wear, take the woolen article, though the silken one Is ever so much softer and prettier. Soutache braiding Is a garniture no end stylish nowadays, aud the best effects dine from having a thread or cord of metal run along beside the silk or wool, and for this nickel, which is less white than silver, less gray than steel, is much used and wonderfully harmonious.

The lost sweet thing on cloaks or jackets is the bii square button of enamel or filigree, with sometimes the wearer's monogram upon it, which is set point upward in double row down either side the waiat and upon revers, cuffs, pocket flaps and to define the waist plaits at the back. For house wear good Parisian dressmakers are using much red stuff, usually in soft tones and softer texture, aud made with straight lull skirts, shirred deeply below the belt at front aud sides, very full at the wilh low, round empire waist and soft sash loosely knotted on one hip. The handsomest of winter costumes in black consist of a velvet skirt with direo- toire cout of the- big flowered stilT brocade, aud sometimes a breadth of the silk is set down the front of the skirt as well, and the sides are then edged with sable, blue fox or some other rich fur. The comet way to wear the lone veils now In use is to bring one end down busido the right ear, pass-it quite around the neck, then draw it through and let the ex.ra lun'tb flow at will. Much the same fashion answers for the long feather boa that bangs from the side oi the new English huts.

There is an alisolute rage for the boa this whiter it appears In all furs, all lengths, all colors and is used indifferently in fur or lace to protect beauty's throat, in feather to trim her newest felt hat, and In what she may piease to go aoout tne net it oi her overgarment and fall loose thence to her feet. Notwithstanding the annual outcry about felt, the lion's share of French hat and bonnets imported this fall are made of velvet and looking at its wonderfully various and lovely folds, the high lights, the rich shadows they give, oue cannot blame tho designers for clinging stoutly to this so lavonie stuff. A Parisian bridal gown just aired in Philadelphia is said to have cost just francs. It was of silver brocade, with square tntn and low round waist. The front iu of hand embroidered gauze garlanded with real orange buds, grown for the occasion, a cluster of which also formed the bouquet for the band.
