fortunate recipient Rev Mr Lambert who is pastor of the ront Street Baptist church of this city was invited to conduct the midweek prayer service at South River and he and his family drove out there Wednesday evening When they went back to the car after the ser vice there was literally no place for the two small boys of the Lambert family for the entire back end of the car was crammed to capacity with all those good things that are to be found in the country at this season things from the pantry gran ary and smokehouse The was a happy surprise for the pastor and his family and was very much appreciated When Rev Mr Lambert first came to Statesville several years ago he was pastor of the South River Bap tist church this church being included ins the field with the ront Street church However the beginning of the building program at ront Street church made increasing demands up on the time and necessitated his giving his entire time to the lo cal church or this reason a change was made in the field but the people of South River have not forgotten Miller Is Atfain Thrown Out of Office in Atlanta Supper Will Be Served Entire Congregation Tonight Plans have been completed for the gathering of the congregation of St Lutheran church at 6:45 to night This is a big family get to gether of the entire membership men andwomen hoys and girls Supper will be served to all by the the men will plan to bring family Mr 1 Brown and tee will be in charge of the serv Mr Raymer will preside A large number of local citizens attended the safety highway meeting which was held in the ball room of the Vance Hotel Monday night at 7:30 It was called for the purpose of organizing an Iredell County Highway safety council The guest speakers of the occasion were Mr Ronald Hocutt director and Mrs William lythe and Dr William Cutter field representatives of the State Highway safety division Mr Hocutt addressed the assembl age on the importance of highway safety He pointed out the great toll of lives claimed each year by careless and reckless driving and walking upon the highways of this state He cited the need' of state wide education as to the proper oper ation of vehicles on the highways and of a more intelligent use of the highway by the pedestrians He re viewed the splendid program of work of his department in combating acci dents and increasing safety upon highways throughout the state His address was well received Mrs lythe reviewed briefly plans for the safety float which will ap pear in the Christmas parade here this afternoon and which is being sponsored by the Lions Club in con junction with the highway safety campaign in Iredell county Dr Cutter presented the plan of organization of the county safety council He outlined the duties of the steering committee in addition to the functions of the chairmen of the major committees He portrayed the value to the people of efficient and effective service by the organization lie outlined the need of reducing the rising number of highway fatalities and voiced the universal approval of the citizens of North Carolina to wards safety campaigns which are organized for the purpose of reduc ing highway hazards At the conclusion of his address Dr Cutter acting as temporary chairman of the meeting received nominations for chairman of the Ire dell county highway safety council Mr Hugh Mitchell was nomiated and elected as chairman Mr Bunch was chosen as chairman of the enforcement com mittee Acting Chief of Police Char les Rumple State Patrolman Honeycutt and Chief Deputy Bailey were selected as members his committee Mr Harold Wilson was named chairman of the engineering commit tee and Mr Ward Guy was named chairman of the accident control committee Mrs Ada Byford was named as chairman of the education committee and Mr John Lewis was named as chairman of the spec ial events 'committee A large number of interested citi zens agreed to serve on the county wide steering committee of the coun cil and a selection of that committee will be made within the immediate future Mr Hocutt and the members of his staff will meet with the new of ficials of the county highway safety council at the Vance Hotel colored 21 who lives' on Walker street is charged with I taking part in the housebreaking and I theft Scott confessed and involved Robertson but the latter denied hav ing anything to do with it All of the above young negroes are held in jail in default of justified bonds in the sum oi each their preliminary hearing in court In connection with the hot robbery Norman Connor colored is charged with receiving stolen goods He is reported to have purchased a stolen pistol from one of the boys Connor filed a $300 bond and was re leased The Iredell county commissioners in session Monday afternoon cd estimated at $80000 of which the county is to raise around $48000 The sites for the school building in Statesville and the one in Mooresville tile still under consideration options have been secured amt the Ideation of each school building is to be deter mined later It is expected that contracts for the buildings will be let soon after loca tions have been selected The board approved petitions for three road projects in the county The first one in New Hope township leading from the ox trail road by way of Tilley I Jolly Jolly was approved by the board and the state highway commission asked to build the road in accordance with the petition The taxpayers of Sharpesburg township asked that the highway de partment maintain the road leading from the Mountain View church road into the main road at A store a distance of one mile The road in Chambersburg town ship beginning at the foot of the hill south of farm on Les ter farm thence cast by way of Click farm con necting the Clendenin
