Page 12 Garden City Telegram Monday, October 4,1976 Melody Brown We Are Number One AND PROUD OF IT! Classified Ad Sales: Bonny Foreman Debbie Dechant The advertising department of the Garden City Telegram was named number one in Kansas in this year's Kansas Press Association contest. Winners were named at the opening day of the Hutchinson fair. The Telegram competed with other newspapers of comparable size in Kansas. Judges were Oklahoma newspaper representatives. In part this is what the Oklahoma judge had to say about ads in The Telegram: "Probably the best looking ads in contest from point of layout effort by staff, general pasteup and use of ad service. Most follow rule of as many inches deep as ' columns wide. 3-i show tab was great..." We are proud as punch of our ad representatives at The Telegram. They work hard at trying to display the merchants' ideas to the reader and potential customer as best they can. About that 3-i show tab both creative newspaper advertising clipping services to which The Telegram subscribes had praise for the issue. Stamps-Conhatm reported: "A whopping-big 56 page tabloid honoring the 3-i show in Western Kansas generated a lot of interest in the annual affair. "The tabloid featured a registered 3-color photo on the cover and had ads inside from every imaginable advertiser." Metro advertising clipping service said: "The prestigious 3-i show may not seem like very much in excitement to a city slicker, but it's a grand and glorious event. Agricultural and industrial implements of every description and size are displayed and anybody who is anybody in agricultural manufacturing is represented. The farmers come from far and wide to see, be seen and to buy. They buy everything from 19-cent bolts to super-deluxe combines and tractors, complete with air conditioned enclosed cabs, stereo tape decks and yes, even CB radios. To guide this tremendous purchasing power The Garden City Telegram ran a 56-page tabloid this year." Do you need help in planning your advertising program?
