F. N. P. R'y EnffliAli Customs Are Slowly Itrothor's Jiuie. The Armenian, girl is little troubled with educiitioD, beyond household duties, Bpiuning and at this last accomplishment she is always nn oxport, especially at unless, indeed, she attends one of the oxoellent Armenian mission schools oar- riod on in ninny towns, where she will loom English, French and possibly nor own language, for Armenians not infrequently adopt the varnacnlar tho country wherein they live.

She will also ucquiro a thirst for fiction, English and Fionch. Tho Armenian girl is deeply sentimental and likes to read of love, and murriage iB, of course, the ultima Thnle of her ideas. This little matter is generally arraugod by her mother, nowhnre aro women of more importance or hold nioro weight in the family councils. The mother is at the head of the patriarchal establishment, in wbioh her sous, thoir wives and often her nephews und niecoE dwell. Slid rales her sons and sons' wives, the latter, perhaps, with a somewhat sovore hand, ospeoially during the first year of thoir married livos, when, except to attend ohnroh, they may not go out, though, when the daughters-in-law in their turn become mothors greater liberty is pormitted them.

In more advanced portions of tho com- muuity a girl's choico is praotioally unrestricted, and it is well that it is so, for the Armenian church strenuously opposes divorco, and the marriage bond is only solublo by death. Not infrequently the girl's chuicu falls upon an Englishman or other European, find many merchants and telegraph officials in Persia and Turkoy find them excellent wives. Tho Armenian national costume consists of a voluminous skirt of heavy bro- oaded material, a tight sleeved bodice of the same stuff, much embroidered about tho front, with handsome filigree silver belts marking the waist. Tho head oovorings aro llchus of fringed embroidered silk, and a multitude of chains and coins hang round their necks. In winter the embroidered bodico is exchanged for a wadded one, and huge felt shoos are worn over tho ordinary boots to keep out the biting cold.

Though the Armenian women do not wear veils to oouceal their features as a point of religion, they not infrequently do cover their faoes with gauze or a corner of a shuwl. Some of tho younger women, however, have discarded their native costumo for that of London three years ago, and they are evidently not quite ut ease iu their newly acquired corsets. They copy the fashion plates in English papers and produce wonderful combinations of pink, blue and violet, which are further adorned with quantities of brilliant jewelry. They are full of curiosity regarding tho life of civilized nations, particularly in the matter of marriage, and uover miss an opportunity of obtaining information on the subjeot. The Disi'Arcn has the hearty thanks many for its manly defense of our goodf name while other papers lose no opportunity to villify us. Tiiat Bound Valley should have in any sense the odium attached to all the homicides, quarrels or tragedies enacted on the ranges extending for hundreds of miles around us, is a mystery to all but a few citizens who delight in villifying their neighbors, and a few correspondents who deem it very wise to furnish sensational items for their papers. As taxpayers we are also pleased that you propose to look after missina public funds. That we farmers should be ground to the earth with our heavy burden of taxes and the money disappear mysteriously and no one responsible, is what the average granger can't understand; neither can we comprehend what bondsmen are lor if not to make good the deficiencies of the officers they secure.
