Palm Beach Daily News, Saturday, January 15, 2000 FREE APPRAISAL EVERY MONDAY Stoddard: Design 'true to yourself MASCOTS it's important to surround yourself with the things you ALEXANDRA STODDARD Decorator and author AUTO HOOD ORNAMENTS Cast in ENGLAND -100's of Styles Finishes CALL for Prices Availability 3 ST. GEORGE CO. Hobe Sound, FL I 561-545-0006 By ROBERT JANJIGIAN Daily News Fashion Editor Stoddard wants to stir people up. The Connecticut-based decorator and author of more than 20 books initially was scheduled to deliver a lecture at 2 plm. today on decorating with antiques in the subtropics in conjunction with the Palm Beach Winter Antiques Show at the Crowne Plaza, 1601 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach.

But instead of talking about what period or style is best for Ralm Beachers, Stoddard will address issues of expressing oneself individually. Her lecture will focus more on the interior design of the human being than of an environment. "It's important to be true to yourself, to surround yourself with the things you love," said she said. Stoddard is not a style dictator. She is more interested in sharing her secrets for living a life that is fulfilling and meaningful than about what color to paint the living room walls.

Plato plays a bigger role in Stoddard's life than paint chips or fabric swatches. Of course, as a design professional involved with decorating clients houses for more than 30 years, Stoddard says that possessions should reflect personality and preferences. "I'm always disappointed when anything is artificial," she said. Tickets for Stoddard's lecture cost $55 and include admission to the antiques exposition, which runs through Sunday. To reserve a seat, call the Historical Society of Palm Beach County, 832-4164.

Most of the information she will discuss will be drawn from her latest book, Feeling at Home: Defining Who You Are and How You Want to Live, which was published last fall by William Morrow. One way of figuring out who you are, according to Stoddard, is to make a list of the 10 words that define you. "You'll be able to learn a great deal about yourself if you do so," fanuary Fri.

I That new direction leads to a new spot on the AM dial on Monday 1290, now occupied by WBZT-AM, also owned by Clear Channel. WBZT will move to WJNO's current spot, 1040. The frequencies are of unequal strength 1040 being the stronger and 1290 will not reach listeners hi Broward and Miami-Dade countries, as 1040 does.

iDole said he found out he was not part of the new lineup at 2:30 p-hu Friday a half-hour before his; show begins when "they Galled me in ostensibly to tell me Row to handle the switch in signals." Cole said he has "some irons in the fire" but declined to comment further on his future except ft) say later, when asked if he had Snything to say to his listeners, "I'll miss them, but perhaps not for too long." Cole is an anomaly in talk ra-3io. The self-styled "Inquisitor General" is unabashedly liberal in a medium dominated by conservative voices. His show covers a variety of national and local topics, Com politics to scientific developments. Cole, who often refers on the air to his education at the United States Military Academy and University of Virginia Law School, does not suffer gladly those he considers fools. Cole is also known locally as a musician and appeared this summer in Clematis Street Theatre's production, A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline, playing four roles.

In 1997, Cole hosted a series of "History Salons" at the Brazilian Court hotel, addressing such topics as the history of the British monarchy and "War is the Engine that Drives History." Replacing Cole on WJNO will be Randi Rhodes, whose show now runs from noon to 3 p.m. on the station. Except for Edwards, who will continue to host WJNO's Morning Report, Rhodes will be the only local voice in the lineup of either WJNO or WBZT. Cole, who noted that he was still on the station's payroll, said his best guess as to why WJNO canceled his show is that "they get the job done cheaper. They're a bottom-line oriented company." Edwards denied the decision was based on cost or on ratings.

The personalities who will take WJNO in its new direction include part-time Palm Beach resident Rush Limbaugh, whose show will run from noon to 3 p.m. CHICAGO WESTBURY- DENVER ST LOUIS VAIL- WESTCHESTER BROOKLYN VIRGINIA- ROCKVIliE WEST RMM BEACH HOLLYWOOD HAVE YOU HEARD OF BKANGJON'S? 20,000 sq.ft. of Unique Furniture ALL at Unbelievable prices! find T' insiders Jv: a if J. 7 I el If LINDA A.
