Ogden School Board The statement came after Dr William Gamer superintendent had recommended to the school board inclusion in the 1971-72 school budget of funds to buy and operate two activity buses NOT PROVIDED If the buses provided he told school board members the two high schools may have to discontinue some of their activities Alvin Carter Ogden High principal told the board that presently about half the student body fee charged at his school goes into transportation of-various groups such as athletic teams musical and drama groups etc He said if buses provided by the district activities will have to be cut or the fee increased Dr Gamer said he believes any attempt to increase student fees would be met with strong resistance Mrs Geraldine Brodstein a regular attender of school board meetings said she believed that in considering the bus purchases the district administration appeared to have its priorities wTong NEED MONEY Money is badly needed she said to reduce classroom sizes in the elementary schools Dr Gamer-replied that the money for the buses would come from the capital outlay division of the budget and could not be transferred from there to a section of the budget where it would be used to hire additional teachers Board member Glen Holley said the buses could be kept in almost constant use for field trips being made by all grade levels Pations in the audience asked why with the Ogden Bus Lines facing financial problems and needing income from buses it rents to the district efforts should be mads by the district to move in the direction of operating its own buses GET JOB DONE Dr Gamer later said the district can get the job done cheaper and if the bus lines is cutting down the school system may have to move in the direction of providing more of its own sendees Board president Spencer Klomp said he would like a detailed study made to see if the activity buses could be kept busy if they are purchased The board approved asking for bids
