M. Bob Clayton is the handsome, charming fellow with a superb (peaking voice who performs as master of ceremonies (with the iub-servient duty of spieling the commercials) on WCKT's Movie Seven each afternoon at 5 p.m.

Mr. Clayton presides over a full-length movie at that time Monday through Friday, and we have only one criticism to make the man's taste in movies is slightly unusual. We have watched the program dozens of times and bave yet to find Bob of the opinion that any movie presented ia less than "just fine." This is not to say that all of the movies on the program are bad. Some are excellent, some are good, and some are atrocious. But Bob is not one to make the distinction.

From the parents' viewing standpoint, i any movie la easier en the oars than "Pop eye Playhouse" and "Mickey Mouse Club," which are Movie Seven's opposition. It so happens that the younger mem-ber of our family, 19 month old Brian, also prefers Movie Seven to Popeye and Mickey Mouse. For one thing he hates spinach and no one-eyed sailor is going to con him into eating it. Secondly, Brian is nuts about commercials. And nowhere can you find more commercials per capita than on Movie Seven.

He Rides To Win? Let's take a typical example. Act Four went an amazing 17 (seventeen) minutes before being interrupted. This backing and filling went on for another hour, to the delight of the child and the annoyance of the parents.

Here's the summary: The program was of one hour and 40 minutes duration. In that period we counted 14 commercials, absorbing 20 minutes. Our day was saved, however, by one of the most hilarious endings we've ever seen In a movie. The climax was set up on the eve of the big stakes race. Harrigan asks Readick to do a pull job on Brown Tone so some other horse can win.

This other horse, of course, ls the one on which Harrigan and his bookmaker buddy are betting their lives. The kid, realizing that the movie is about to end, chickens out and tell, Harrigan to drop dead, he ain't pulling no horse with the movie practically over. Harrigan smashes the kid fa the head, then decides you can't win 'em all and resigns himself to Brown Tone winning. But he makes one egregious faux pas. He doesn't tell the bookmaker, who goes right ahead and sends It In en this other donkey.

The st.kes Is run and lot Readick gets off bad with Brown Tone but gets up in the final eighth and wins it all. Naish, the bookmaker, does not take this lightly. He hauls off and busts Harrigan right in the teeth, knocking him clean out of a clubhouse box seat and onto the concrete below. Harrigan lands on his head, which, obviously, is pretty soft. He expires, with jockey Readick at his side.

"Never cross your owner," Harrigan tells Readick as be passes on. A more pragmatic credo, it seems, ls: "Never cross your bookmaker." an academic subject nearest my heart horse racing. Clayton Introduced the show by stating: "We have a good one for you today." After a brief commercial we got into the first act in which Harrigan, (William Gargan) the ex-jockey, is teaching Bobby Readick how to pull a horse and, when he's trying to win, how to pull on the saddle cloth of the horse threatening to run Artkar Godfrey Arthur Godfrer 10! Plenty of laughs and the usual fine job by Frank Cadey as the doctor. Harriet by him. "I'll boot 'em home for you," says the kid. "You'll win when I tell you to," says Harrigan. (Racing officials will tell you such chicanery doesn't exist, but they aren't kidding anybody.) After five minutes of movie, Clayton reappeared and said, "We'll go back to what is going to be a fine movie in just a minute." We did go back to the movie in four minutes, following three fine commercials.

In Act Two, a bookmaker (J. Carrol Naish) appears and comments with a smile: "This guy (jockey Readick) can stop a comet." For the uninitiated, the bookie meant the kid could stop a (-5 shot Queea for Day Am. Bandstand Amor. Baadstaad Quae for Day Am. Bandstand Amtr.
