IB TUESDAY EVENING 27 1971 Section OGDEN UTAH STUDENT BODY TO HEAR RAMPTON WEDNESDAY Gov Calvin Rampton will discuss the problems of environmental health from the state level during a speech at Ogden High School Wednesday Gov Rampton will address the student body during a special assembly beginning at 10:30 am Ogden High Principal Alvin Carter said the public is invited to the assembly in the school auditorium The piogram was initiated by the science department which is studying the effect of activities on environment and ecology Rampton was invited to discuss en- vironment and ecology Demolished The Ogden School District will retain at least for some time the Grant Elementary School property and its educational television station members of the Ogden School Board of Education decided Monday night The board accepted a $5450 bid from the Bonneville Wrecking Co to raze the Grant school building on the property at 23rd and Grant after Dr William Garner superintendent reported that Read Brothers had refused to change its $80000 bid for the property Dr Garner also told the board that he has received word from the Federal Communications Commission that it will not permit the sale of Channel 9 which carries the KOET broadcasts to a Salt Lake City bidder who had proposed to use it part-time for commercial broadcasts The sal proposal rejected by the FCC came from a group headed by -Salt Lake businessman James Lavenstein approved by the board in June of 1969 Read Brothers had advised him that it would not modify its offer Dr Garner told the board The $80000 offer had provided for a down payment of $5000 with the remainder to be paid over a 15-year period through $5000 yearly payments without interest Board members said when the offer was presented in late March said he believes the majority do not want to be on relief rolls but many are unskilled discouraged or plain to cope with work person can look strong and APRIL CITY HALL'S WARM AGAIN City anu county employes in the Municipal Building are warm again For four days last Monday through Thursday women employes in the building wore pant suits and jackets while some of the men donned sweaters and coats old are fed by two boilers one repaired earlier but condemned by boiler inspectors until parts arrive to complete the job Plane Search Awaits Shift In Weather HILL AIR FORCE BASE Air Force officials today were and waiting for the weather to to resume the search for a B57 which crashed into the Great Salt Lake two weeks ago Bad weather since late last week has stalled the search for the plane which crashed into the lake with its two-man crew The crew members were Maj Gerrit Van Vliet of Layton and Lt Col George Lagarde of New Orleans Search crews have been concentrating in an area near Carrington Island in the west-central part of the lake where fragments of the craft and its crew were found floating in about 25 feet of water the day after the crash Divers and a boat equipped with bank for loan purposes placed the value at $63000 Dr Garner and board members have expressed concern about selling the property at any amount considerably below the appraisal MADE DECISION The board decision to retain the Grant property was unanimous Scott Wilson superintendent of buildings and grounds for the district said the Bonneville bid does not include filling the hole which will be left when the oid building is torn down It does include demolition to the ground level The district will obtain dirt to be hauled in for filling the excavation Mr Wilson said Dr Garner and Mr Wilson have both told the board the building is attractive to children playing in the area and should be taken down as soon as possible The Grant item came early on the agenda and Dr Gamer told the board that another bidder had shown interest in the property and had said he would be at the board meeting to pre sent it DELAYED ACTION The board delayed action on the items for more than an hour then proceeded with it when no one appeared on the reported offer On the sale of the television station Dr Garner said attorneys representing the district said they saw little hope in appealing the FCC decision Dr Garner said he had offer in for the television station He said he would continue to work with the person making the offer to see if anything could be worked out Board members suggested the superintendent and his staff also explore what might be done in the way of a joint television station operation with a ig The Weber County School District also operates an educational television Hayes where they were arrested in connection with a burglary at the home of Wayne Connell at 1300 Main RECOVERED PROPERTY Property recovered and turned over to Layton police for evidence included a color television set five cameras two pistols tape recorder radio and binoculars Layton police estimated value of the property at $2480 The burglary warrant was issued in connection with the April 14 burglary of the home of Robert Overdiek at 180 12th Taken in the burglary was $300 in dollars and half dollars and some watches and rings Detective Mosher said the watches and rings were recovered and placed in evidence Deputies Aid Six Stranded On Mud Flats ROY Four Roy youths who had their rabbit hunting excursion stopped short by rain-soaked mud flats near Locomotive Springs Saturday were pulled out Sunday night along with a Hooper couple who went to their aid The youths were Bob Cheney 17 and Mike Cheney 16 of 2467 4975 Neil Simpson 16 of 6081 2100 and Jeff Stewart 17 of 5924 2100 Mr and Mrs
