Estate who are here for the American Society of Newspaper Editor's convention and The Daughters of the American Revolution, who are here for their convention. Result complete immobilization.

Flowers everywhere hats bosoms, trees, bushes and on most street corners all very giddy. Leave It To The Girls The Women's National Press Club, welcomed their favorite editors to town by hostessing a large formal dinner where their guests, MET SAW and LISTENED to outstanding Washington and National personalities. The Presidential room at the Statler was a mass of various colored balloons floating over every chair and everywhere large placards and pictures of the seven outstanding candidates for the July conventions. VIPs were introduced via a spotlight during the dinner by popular political columnist DORIS FLEESON and society columnist BETTY BEALE. The two girls had prepared a quip for each guest that some old timers said was better than the Gridiron produces.

Florida's senior Senator was introduced as "Oil for the Lamps of Palm Beach" SENATOR HOLLAND. For you innocents, that because of bis stand on the tidelands oil). Other examples were "Idaho's biggest Potato," SENATOR DWORSHAK "I'm in the mood for Moody," SENATOR MOODY of Mich. "There's Nothing like a Dame," SENATOR SMITH of Maine. "Stars fell on Alabama," SENATOR SPARKMAN "Meet the Man who made the Mink a Social Outcast," SENATOR FULBRIGHT.

"I'd hate to cross this man up" GORDON DEAN Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and a loud wolf whistle introduced BACHELOR SENATOR MAGNUSSON of Washington. The Hopetuls The seven guests of honor were the declared candidates or their 'stand-ins. The 'wary! news-girls limited their guests to exactly five minutes each to tell why they should be the next occupant of the 'fresh' White House. Glamorous NANCY KEFAUVER, in the most chic strapless evening dress and long white gloves, and obviously terrified, said it was her first public speech. She was so decorative that no one cared what she said.

Then SENATOR DICK RUSSELL made a speech full of Southern gallantry that brought down the house. Said he was happy it was the Senator and not Mrs. Kefauver who was down in Florida campaigning against him. He said Kefauver's chief accomplishment was that he had outmarried himself to such an extent. Russell was the sensation of the evening, and had to take two bows GOP candidate HAROLD STASSEN spoke for himself as did SENATOR ROBERT KERR.

Ohio Republican Representative CLARENCE BROWN, who was Taft's 1948 campaign manager, spoke for Taft who is out campaigning. REPRESENTATIVE ALLAN HUNTER of California represented GOVERNOR WARREN. Republican PAUL HOFFMAN made an impassioned plea for GEN. EISENHOWER. For the record Nancy Kefauver was not the only one with stage fright.

Among the 400 Judging and Hopefuls and casting straw votes were HEDDA HOPPER, in a hat of course, but a pretty pink one with one rose The NELSON POYN-TERS, who live in St. Petersburg when in Florida (they, had a party at their Georgetown house after the dinner.) OVETA CLUP HOBBY Texas's woman wonder, who gets prettier each year. Many an editor would have given anything to have heard the remarks ALICE ROOSEVELT LONGWORTH was saying to CYRUS CHING. You may remember she authored the quip "re-the little man on the wedding cake." MRS. MARQUIS CHILDS and MRS.

RICHARD HARKNESS were telling GEORGIA NEESE CLARK (The Treasurer of the U. how some of the DARs had got tired of orchids and switched to corsages made of dollar bills. AUSTINE, (MRS. WM. RANDOLPH HEARST) practically stopped the show, in a white bouffant cotton creation with black velvet jacket.

CARLENE ROBERTS, American Airlines, Vice President and as glamorous as they come, was in light blue. Coincidental But of course, an editor said he had heard that the President said when he held his last annual press conference today for the editors in the National museum of Science that the editors would feel at home with the dinosauers etc. Anyway the editors said it was the best conference they had ever been to and the President so entertaining. Florida-Oh, Yes Mrs. Marquis Childs, wife of your columnist, is just back from Anna Maria Island near Bradenton and says it is an enchanting place.

JOHN BEREMAN of Chicago is seeing Miami Beach for the first time since they sold their prize winning house on LaGorce Island. DAVID STOWE, who is still in his early 40's, and was the youngest College President at one time, (now an administrative assistant to the President), will be in Miami this week-end on business, but is planning a trip to the Orchid farm with the PHILIP WYLIES, come Sunday. Had a setback from a cold. All is well at Kenneland except the weather is the word from Lexington. The first to reach popular Secretary of the Army, FRANK PACE, in the Pentagon, to congratulate him on a new daughter, their third, was UNDER SECRETARY OF THE NAVY WHITEHAIR, also the father of three daughters. The Pace women are a symphony in Ps Mamma is PEGGY PACE the new baby is PENNY PACE and their two admiring sisters are PAULA PACE and PRISOLLA PACE. Speaking of daughters Secretary Whitehair told Secretary Pace this story.

When Mr. Whitehair was in college he had two great friends, who were also football stars, (as was Mr. Whitehair) the late TOOTIE PERRY, of Florida, who was called the All-American water boy, as he was a fireman on the Seaboard R. and PUG ALLEN, a Florida boy who played at Georgia Tech. One day years after their college days they happened by accident to meet in Sears Roebuck in Jacksonville where they had all gone to see a Florida-Maryland football game.

In catching up with each other they discovered that between the three of them they had nine daughters and nary a son.
