New York, JUDY COLLINS VISITS 'SESAME STREET' On a visit to "Sesame Street" Jan. 17, singer Judy Collins joins a new- singing group called "Yes." inspired by hard-hat Muppets Biff and Sully.

Once she agrees, she harmonizes with them in a song teaching thesightword, "yes." Judy On 6 Sesame 9 Singer Judy Collins guest stars on television's "Sesame Street" on PBS Monday, Jan. 17. Her appearance as a host on the show, which includes membership in a singing group organized by hardhat Muppets Biff and Sully, marks one of a number of appearances the popular singer and composer will make on the daily educa- tional series during the current season. The show centers on Ms. Collins' efforts to find a quiet place on Sesame Street to practice a song for a concert she is to perform later the same day.

Through a series of humorous in- terruptions by various Muppet and human residents of the street she is diverted to some new musical numbers and dia- logue that teach the show preschool viewers. "I enjoy being on the program and I like the attitude of the show and the people," Ms. Collins commented during a break on the "Scasame Street" production set. "1 feel committed to children's enlightenment and the show is a way I can reach them." Ms. Collins begins her day on the street with a slight sore throat and heads for Mr.

Hooper's store where instead of lun- ch, she gets advice on what to do for her throat. As she seeks a peaceful place to practice, the singer helps to give the young viewers some lessons in reaching a solution through trial and error, reasoning and problem solving and a musical lesson on thesightword "yes.".
