Sandy Mathews was hanged here, to-day, for the murder of Iaaac Tolk, near Lucas station.

Ho forced his wife's stepdaughter, about 10 years of ago, who had witnessed the crime, to assist him. She told her employer, in February last, about the whole affair. Polk's mutilated remains were disinterred and Mathews was arrested and confessed, and said ho knew he ought to hang.

Father Ilav-erty, Yicar-Gcneral to the Bishop of this section, to-day, refused to allow the rites of the Catholic Church to be administered over the remains of tho late Don Miguel Otero, a millionaire and or.e of the foremost men of New Mexico. The reason alleged was that Otero died a Mason.

Tho members of tho Massonie order, assisted by an Episcopal clergyman, conducted the burial services. Tho Tribune's Santa Fe special says: A Chihuahua dispatch states that Gen. Fucro, commander of the Mexican troops in Chihuahua, with 400 Mexican cavalry, surprised and attacked tho Ju band of renegade Apaches, early in tho morning of the 25th near Bosque do Santiago, and whipped them unmercifully. Thirty-seven bucks were killed and ten taken prisoners. Tho entire camp outfit, including fifty head of stock, was captured.

The Mexican loss was one oilicer and eighty men. The losses sustained in the previous fights with United States and Mexican troops leave the hosliies badly demoralized. Albcqukrque, N. M.t Juno 2. Moycs explained the signification of tho colors seen in tho show windows of tho druggists. A very elaborate comparison between the present condition of woman as compared with her situation in the early ages was made by Miss Nettie L. Southworth. The address, though quite lengthy, was very interesting throughout. A sptcy criticism was offered by Miss Christiana Rasmusgen, and, after some questions had been assigned and tho program for next meeting read, tho association adjourned for one week.
