The problem is, my husband and I are not into collecting things, especially breakable dolls. Our daughter will not be able to play with them. In fact, she won't even be allowed to touch them until she is older. I don't want to insult my sister by storing these dolls and not displaying them. She would be terribly hurt.

I know the dolls cost a small fortune, and we are grateful for my sister's generosity, but they are just not our style. Would we be out of line to suggest that she get Marietta something else? Not Doll Lovers in Dixie Dear Dixie: A gift is whatever people choose to give. Even though Marietta won't be able to play with the dolls, they will be considered treasures when she is older. Be gracious when acknowledging these gifts because Marietta is going to nave a priceless collection down the road. Dear Ann Landers: You have printed several columns about the dangers of allowing children to trick-or-treat on Halloween.

Our church has come up with an idea we think might be helpful to your readers. We call it "Trick or Trunk." Here's how it works: Church members and families decorate the trunks of their cars and fill them with candy and other treats. They drive to the church parking lot where the decorated trunks are accessible. The children dress up in their Halloween costumes and go from car to car while family members hand out treats. The parents enjoy watching their children parade around the parking lot.

A local youth group sells hot dogs and pop at bargain prices as a church fundraiser. This is a safe way for children to trick-or-treat with families they know, and it makes for an inexpensive night out for the family. We Like Living in Tucson, Ariz. Dear Tucson: Your suggestion is a good one. What an excellent way to keep children safe on Halloween which is just around the corner, folks.

Readers can writs to Ann Landers in cam of Creators Syndicate, 5777 W. Century Los Angeles, CA 90045. responses in your column about the cross-dresser who used the ladies' room. I am a heterosexual cross-dresser. I am not a pedophile, rapist, pervert or sexual predator.

I don't know why I feel the need to cross-dress, but it seems to satisfy my feminine side, and it relieves my anxieties. Whenever I am dressed as a female, I do my utmost to look and act like a lady. I always use the ladies' restroom. I am not interested in staring at anyone's wife or daughter. I want only to accomplish my mission and draw as little attention to myself as possible, and the ladies' rest-rooms provide much more privacy than the men's room.

When I use the facilities, I sit. Of course, I look in the mirror to check my make-up and hair, but I do not linger any longer than is absolutely necessary. Any person who thinks my eyes are "wandering" has a problem. Thanks Tor printing the more supportive replies instead of going for the bizarre staff I appreciate your enlightened attitude and am sure all the cross-dressers out there do, also. ANN LANDERS Advice Columnist Please use my female name if you print this.

Gott: I eat a big bowl of fresh fruit sprinkled with bran for breakfast, a green salad with lowrfat dressing for lunch, and a low-protein high complex-carbohydrate dinner lots of beans, pasta and fresh vegetables. I also drink five glasses of water a day, yet I'm constipated. What am I doing wrong? Dear Readen From a dietary standpoint, you seem to be doing all you can to treat your constipation. Therefore, I suggest that you see a doctor because, depending on your age, you may need testing and advice. Older people, for example, tend toward constipation because of sluggish bowel action (and lack of exercise) that can be worsened by certain medicines, especially diuretics and anti-hy pertensives.

Most types of E.D. are treatable, many are curable but first a diagnosis is mandatory. Supplemental testosterone, for example, will usually correct the problem in hormone-deficient men.

In addition, Viagra and penile prosthetic devices are often helpful. Physical illnesses need to be addressed. Counseling may aid men who experience psychological impotence. Readers can write to Dr. Gott in care of Newspaper Enterprise Assa, 200 Madison New YorMY 10016.

Gott: My husband is 44 and impotent. Two years ago, he went to a doctor who gave him a "hormone" shot and told him to stop smoking. Now my husband will get a shot only when I ask him, and it lasts just a week. I'm 39 and cannot accept that our sex life is over. STUMPED? KUCV set to move to its new frequency on Thursday ifiP "ft August, airs National Public Radio (NPR) news and NPR programs, including "Morning Edition," "All Things Considered" and my personal favorite, "Car Talk." NPRN also broadcasts nationally syndicated programs from a variety of sources, locally produced Nebraska news and public affairs programming, arts and humanities programming and classical music. "We hope people won't think we've suddenly disappeared," Dilley said. "Our message is haven't gone away, we've just gotten No matter how much KUCV promotes its frequency change this week, the station knows it still will get its fair share of calls wondering what happened to the transmissioa KUCV, the flagship station of Nebraska Public Radio Network, will move from 90.9 FM to 91.1 FM at 8 am Thursday. "We're on pins and needles as they say," Nebraska Public Radio Network general manager Ray Dilley said. "We fear somebody will drive home that night and think we're not there anymore." The frequency change marks a switch to a new directional antenna and more powerful transmitter that increases KUCVs power from 16 to 100 kilowatts.

"Inside Schwartz" (NBC) isn't having the same luck. The network will snelve the Thursday night comedy during November sweeps in favor of repeats of "Friends," "Will Grace" and an original episode of "Scrubs." Ellen DeGeneres's new show also is struggling. CBS has decided to push "Ellen'' hack one-half hour to 7:30 pm on Fridays with repeats of "King of Queens" and "Yes, Dear" serving as lead-ins. "A gentleman called to tell us he could receive us in his little shop in his cellar," Dilley said. "He had never been able to before." When KUCV kicks in the new transmitter Thursday, even more improvement will be evident to Lincoln-area and Southeast Nebraska listeners. Some areas will receive the KUCV signal for the first time. KUCV, which began broadcasting 24 hours a day when NPRN added overnight programming in Around the dial Lincoln's Ryne Seaman has landed a monthlong acting gig on the NBC daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives," which airs at noon on Time Warner channel 6.
