Inherit The Wind Tryouts Set Kingsport Theatre Guild will hold tryouts Tuesday and Thursday nights Aug 10 and 12 for the first production of the 1965-66 season Inherit the Wind the courtroom drama based on the Scopes Monkey Trial at Dayton Tenn in the late twenties The play which deals with the trial of the young teacher charged with teaching the theory of evo lution in his classroom will be directed by Tom Carson Theatre Guild president The Scopes trial attracted worldwide attention with its fiery lawyers Clarence arrow and William Jennings Bryan The- controversial Darrow defended Scopes in the historic trial which became a debate over the issues of science vs the Bible 1 The Guilds first effort of the year has parts for 32 most of which are mens roles It is scheduled for production Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church today at 4 pm as part of the Virginia Highlands Arts Festival at Abingdon Stigall is organist and director of music for Myers Park Presbyterian Church at Charlotte NC been shown in a number of Art Guild shows and several of his works have been sold His landscape On the Farm will hang in the librarys main reading room McMillan a native of Spartanburg has been in Kingsport five years and has been active in Art Guild activities since coming here His works have been shown in guild shows at Abingdon and in the First National Bank-Art Guild Competitive Show last winter McMillan designs book covers primarily school yearbooks and does some other design work He attended Wofford College in Spartanburg and trained for three years at Harris Advertising Art School in Nashville Two local commercial artists have been picked by the Kingsport Art Guild for their work in fine arts as Artists of the Month far August Wheeler sign painter for Mason and Dixon and Dan McMillan book cover designer in the Art Department at Kingsport Press have been honored by the art group Their paintings will hang during the month at the Kingsport Public Library Wheeler a native of
