She married Wendell Pearson on December 24, 1939. To this union, daughter Beverly was born. After Wendell passed away, Roma Beverly lived on a farm near Waco, Neb. She married George Spangler on August 22, 1969.

Roma graduated from Carleton High School, attended Kearney State Teachers College, York College. She received a degree from the University of Nebraska in 1959. Roma taught in Carleton, Geneva, Crete, Waco, Denton, the last 18 years at Dawes Elementary totaling 43 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Deborah Circle, Lincoln Garden Club, Lincoln Quilters Guild, Prairie China Paints, Capital China Painters, Star City Doll Society, Eastern Star Crete Chapter Lincoln Retired Teachers Association, NSEA, NEA, and UNL Alumna Association. Sign our guest book at journalstar.com YATES W. Yates, 88, Lincoln, died Sunday Born January 3, 1920 in Houghton, Mich. to Arthur and Edna Wells Walsh. Mary attended Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass, and graduated from Connecticut College for Women in 1941. She moved to Lincoln with her husband in 1945.

She will be remembered for her sense of humor, outlandish stories, opinions and her love of horses. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Russell Ewers, Phoenix, sons and daughter-in-law, Silas and Dianne Yates, Castine, Willard Yates, Alexandria, grandchildren, Justin Yates Ewers; Maren Ewers Whitson; and Julia Yates. She is preceded in death by her husband, Burnham Yates; one brother; one sister; and her parents. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. a at Wyuka Funeral Home.
