KSU DEFENSE Defenses are equal. Nebraska has had some slips, but this is a good group with the potential to rattle even KSU QB Michael Bishop. The comers are among the best ever (really) and the linebackers can be very tough. Look for plenty of zwie-blitz-type of looks meaning blitzes from the safeties and all kinds of strange and exotic defenses to mess up KSU.

The Wildcats meanwhile need only an average game to stop Nebraska's offense that still seems like it is searching for an answer as weH as a consistent lineup. KANSAS STATE VS. THE DIFFERENCE IN THE GATi'E With everything but offenses equal, the Wildcats only need to keep the Huskers from a bunch of first downs to control the game. Nebraska has not 'shown big-play potential and it looks like gnnding the game out against KSU is nearly impossible. Kansas State has big plays, little plays and all kinds of ways to control the ball on offense.

That appears the big difference in the game. Kirs CFFEKsr vs. WiLD WILDCAT DEFENSE The average rush per game against KSU is 72 yards a game. Nebraska is rushing at 270 yards per game the lowest since the NU passing days of 1976. Recently, Nebraska has blocked better, picking up the pace at 466, 256, 194 and 359 yards rushing the last four games.

But the Huskers have blown four of 1 0 chances to score inside the opponent's 20-yard line the last two games. And remember Ricky Williams gained just 43 yards against KSU. Nebraska tackle Adam Julch said, "Our biggest problem has been intensity. I don't think that's a problem this week. We are showing up together.

We'll have to. They'll shoot gaps with linebackers and they'll give us everything our defense gives us every day a lot of headaches." NU offensive line coach Milt Tenopir said, 'You're not going to trick Kansas State's defense. They will show very few fronts and very few changes. They believe in what they do on defense and they have good reason to. This is the same bunch that started against us last year.

We know you can't afford to miss pin-blocks, you can't afford to make mistakes In technique. We have gotten closer to executing the blocks right lately. But INumber-varda returned) Jarrod Cooper 2-27. Damion Mcintosh 2-3. Mark Simoneau 2-2, Darren Howard 1-4.

INTERCEPTION RETURNS tHIC GMtCaOHYUncom Journal Star Off the fingertips: Nebraska wingback Shevin Wiggins (5) dives for a pass as Iowa State defensive back Jamarcus Powers Wiggins couldn't hold on, but the Huskers still roiled to a 42-7 victory.

6 148 24 7 a K-State defensive specialty. MANHATTAN VS. THE CIS This is the biggest game in KSU history since a winless Wildcat team met a winless KU in a 1 7-1 7 tie game in 1 987 and the folks in Wildcat country are just learning how to win. ESPN College Game Day is in town. Keith Jackson and ABC are rumblin, stumblin into town.

VS.C:LLS?iYEOl Bishop has not been allowed to talk to the media since Oct. 6. KSU Coach Bill Snyder said Bishop is "sometimes controversial." His style on the field is even more dangerous. He has shown he is able to throw a ball more than 70 yards on a line in the air, able to run the quarterback draw and option well enough to scare any defense and able to lead a team to a 9-0 record. He swore that he never wanted to lose again, to a kxkerroom of teammates, after last year's toss to Nebraska.

He has been the leader since. But since Snyder won't let him talk, forget the Heisman and possibly the all-Big 12 quarterback spot. SPECIAL VS. SPECIAL TEAS Nebraska has it all when Kris Brown is on his kicking game. He's missed six this year, some of that was a change in holder in midseason, but when he's on, he's among the best.

KSU's Martin Gramatica is even better. NU punter Bill Lafleur and KSU's James Garcia are the best in the Big 1 2 and among the best in the country. NU kick returner Joe Walker and KSU's Terry Allen are the best. No edge here but the winner wiH likely have the better day on special teams. And even if it's even, It will be fun to watch.

Against Kansas, Washington, Iowa State, UAB and Louisiana Tech, the numbers were the old typical output. But against Texas, Oklahoma State and Texas Nebraska rushed for a total of 408 yards. 1 think I might get the ball more this week," said wingback Shevin Wiggins, who obviously has more speed to the corner than Dan Alexander.

"I love running the ball. I hope we use that wingbone, double-slot set a lot." The wingbone is also right up OB Eric Crouch's alley he played it all through high school, Alexander needs some running room to gt going, once he does he's hard to stop.
