CARROLL Every year since 1998, the Ohio Literacy Resource Center celebrates the outstanding writing accomplishments of adults who are participants in Adult Basic and Literacy Education programs throughout the state of Ohio. For the fifth year in a row, Charlotte Putt has taken students to the Ohio Writer's Conference. Charlotte has had three to five winners each year. This year four students writings were selected along with 71 others across the state to be published in a softbound book called Beginnings. A total of 454 entries were submitted. SUBMITTED PHOTO 1 I FC senior receives scholarship for design school COLUMBUS Anna Vig-orito, a senior at William V-Fisher Catholic High School has received a Dean's Award scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design. The merit scholarship was awarded as a result of an art portfolio competition conducted at the college which was judged by a team of CCAD members.

Vigorito will begin her studies this fall and is the daughter of Donna Fox-Moore of Lancaster. Reasonerwins Markwood scholarship LANCASTER The Fairfield County Foundation is pleased to announce Alexandria Reasoner as the winner of the Officer Brett Markwood Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year. The applicants were reviewed on the basis of scholastic merit, economic need and life goals. Of ficer Brett Mark-wood was a graduate of Fairfield Union High School, Baldwin-Wallace College and the Central Ohio Police Officer's Training Academy. While attending Baldwin-Wallace he majored in Criminal Justice and Psychology.

He minored in Sociology. In July of 1990 he began working as a patrolman at Lancaster Police Department. On February 21, 1993 he was slain in the line of duty while chasing a robbery suspect on foot. This scholarship was formed by Officer Brett Markwood family, friends, Lancaster Police Department and the F.O.P. Lodge after Officer Markwood was shot in the line of duty.

This scholarship is for Fairfield County students to attend a police academy, technical school for law enforcement training or a four year college in law enforcement related fields. Resident receives music scholarship to Valparaiso LANCASTER Stephan Raddatz of Lancaster recently accepted a music scholarship award from Valparaiso University. The award was recommended by the faculty of the department of music based on an audition in voice. Stephan plans to enter Valparaiso University as a first year student this fall, where he expects to participate in music.

Slater and Dawson's artwork, a chair made of a shopping cart and then upholstered, was part of Seifert's recycled art class project.

Their work was among 12,000 pieces submitted from across the state and was one of 300 chosen-to receive a Governor's Award. Receiving a Governor's Award is one of the highest honors as a high school art student. Dental student wins research award 0 Psa Li. ffe Ivy 4 LANCASTER Shawnee State University Dental Hygiene student Kimberly Stalder of Lancaster won this year's Clark Memorial Library Excellence in Research Award and was presented with $400 and a certificate recognizing her work. Stalder is a student employee in circulation at the library.

For the past two years, Clark Memorial Library' has recognized a student for Excellence in Research for a student paper or project that demonstrates the use of the university library collections and information literacy research skills.
