He was 72. Samuelson earned All-Big Six honors in 1946 and 1947 as a Corn-husker and was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 1982. He also played professionally for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams. After retiring from the NFL, Samuelson worked for Storz Brewery for 20 years. He also owned and operated Sam's Pub, a tavern in downtown Lincoln during the late 1970s.

Samuelson is a World War II veteran of the United States Navy.
