Steve Morris, general manager of the Kearney-based NTV Network, called to say that the universe, as you know it, is not coming to an end. In fact, his company has big plans that will affect all Lincoln viewers, Trek-kersornot. First, let me draw a family tree. NTV is owned (or will be, when the FCC gives its final OK) by Pappas Telecasting, owner of KPTM Channel 42 in Omaha. Pappas also operates Fox affiliate KTVG, Grand Island's Channel 17, through a lease management agreement.

NTV-owned KSNB in Superior is operated as a satellite station of KTVG and has a low-power translator station on UHF Channel 22 in Lincoln. Ergo, Lincolnites can receive KTVG's programming in Lincola Morris says that while KTVG is not renewing its contract with UPN, whose programming includes "Star Trek: Voyager," the station intends, to continue carrying new episodes of "Voyager" for as long as the show is produced. broadcast on NPRN (KUCV-FM 90.9 locally) and KVNO-FM 90.7. For his anniversary show, airing Tuesday morning, Rook's guests include University of Nebraska-Lincoln theater manager Julie Hagemeier, John Stevens Berry, KLKN anchor Rod Fowler, Sea Don Wesely, local comedian T. Mar-ni Vos and others. the last few weeks. The network is also erecting a new, broadcast tower near Ravenna, which will enlarge the footprint of both NTV and KTVG significantly.

All Perlman, all the time Internationally acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman will join Nebraska Public Radio Network music coordinator Chris Kohtz and Bill Jenks, music director for Omaha's KVNO-FM, for an all-day Perlman But then it gets interesting. Pappas is one of the applicants for two new, full-power UHF stations in Lincoln Channels 45 and 51. If awarded one of the licenses, Pappas will set up the new Lincoln station as a full-power satellite of Fox affiliate KTVG, similar to the relationship of KOLNKGIN-TV in Lincoln and Grand Island. So then all you "Voyager" fans will be able to see your shows without so much fuss. But then there's another problem: Will Cable Vision be willing to carry two Fox affiliates on its already crowded system? Probably not, which means Omaha's KPTM might have to go.

As a KTVG satellite, the new Lincoln station would not have its own news operation but would take a news feed from NTV in Kearney (confused Morris says that the news shows would continue to be heavily tri-cities oriented, but he's open to trying other things to get the Capital City into the news mix (good luck on that one). Still, don't count it out. Pappas is making progressive changes in the news department of its NTV acquisition, including adding a 5 p.m. newscast the first in the Lincoln-Kearney-Hastings market.
