There were 100 prizes of one dollar each, 100 of fifty cents each, and 300 of twenty-five cents each, all in goods.

The scheme worked and crowds flocked to the store, with the result that Barnum and his employers reaped many dollars, while purchasers of the tickets acquired an adequate remuneration in experience. The success of P. T. Barnum may be considered as phenomenal. It is estimated that during his fifty years of show life 100,000,000 people have visited his various attractions.

Barnum will have no effect upon Barnum Bailey's "Greatest Show on Earth." To provide against such a contingency Mr. Barnum, to make certain the perpetuity of the great show, had articles of agreement drawn. These stipulated that iu the event of the death of either Mr. Barnum or Mr. Bailey, or both, who were equal owners in the show, it should be continued for fifty years.

This agreement was made binding upon their respective heirs, executors or assigns. Mr. Bailey said that the performance would be suspended on the day of Mr. Barnum's funeral. Any other suspension would be made in accordance with the desires of the dead showman's relatives.

Oldest Haughter. LONDON, April 8. The Parnellite members of parliament continue to affect ignorance on the subject of Parnell's alleged marriage to the oldest daughter of Mrs. O'Shea, while the friends of Captain O'Shea declare the story to be a canard. The extreme privacy of the marriage, if it has occurred, is attributed to the fact that the young woman, although twenty-one years of age, is a ward in chancery, and her marriage could not be lawfully solemnized without the consent of the court.

Parnell, in the event of such a marriage, would be open to prosecution. Few men in civil life have enjoyed such a varied career as P.

T. Barnum, and his name for years has been a household word in every civilized country on the globe. On July 5, 1810, there was born in the town of Bethel, a child who was called after his maternal grandfather, Phineas Taylor Barnum. The child at an early age manifested an inclination to accumulate money, and when twelve years old made his maiden trip to New York behind a drove of fat cattle. Phineas' aversion to farming was the cause of the elder Barnum starting him in business as a general storekeeper.

His father died in 1825, insolvent, causing young Barnum to lose his store. Though having a mother and her five children to support he started out undaunted, and secured a position as clerk in a store in a nearby town. The following year found him manag $10.00 $15,00 Overcoats delivery of the deed Deferred payments to he my fellow citizens in private life continue to strive for the maintenance of those principles of liberty, equality and justice in government which have, without the shadow of turning, animated them from the foundation of the republic. Subsequently she petitioned for letters of administrat ion on Robertson's estate, and was taken by Daskam to Philadelphia to keep her out of the way of Evarts, Choate cc Beaman, counsel for Robertson's heirs. Receiving no money from the conspirators and becoming alarmed at the increasing complications, Miss Brooks sought the advice of a friend, upon which she communicated the details of the plot to District Attorney Nieoll, resulting in the arrest of the plotters.
