UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL COMMUNITY OCT. OCT 28, 2000 A-9 Anniversaries D.A. (Bert) and Altamae McElroy of Ukiah celebrated Steak House on Sept. 22, 2000. They were married Sept.

22, 1940 in Upper Lake at the Methodist Church. Bert and Altamae have three children Judy Nelson and husband Buck of Red Bluff, Ron McElroy and wife Liz of Medford, Janeen Saunders and husband John of Redwood Valley; four grandchildren Shannon, Heather, Casey, Allison; two great grandchildren Vicki and Alexis with one due in April 2001. Bert and Altamae met at Upper Lake Elementary School when they were in the fifth grade. their 60 year wedding anniversary with family at Broiler Baird John and Margaret Baird of Willits celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary on Oct. 22, 2000.

They were treated to Engagement nt Wright-Evans Kristina L. Wright of Ukiah and Eric Evans of West Union, Ohio have announced their wedding to take place in November at Todd Grove Park in Ukiah. The bride is the daughter of Diana and Charles Wright of Ukiah. She graduated from Ukiah High School in 1995 and attended Mendocino College. Four years ago she joined the United States Marine Corps, lived in South Carolina and is currently a corporal of the USMC in Iwakuni, Japan.

The groom is the son of Connie and Howard Evans of Wedding Arcand-Pinkerton Shelly Arcand and Dana Lyn Pinkerton of Ukiah were married Sept. 16, 2000 at Redwood Valley Cellars. The bride is the daughter of Linda Hooper of Ukiah and Reyn Arcand of Branscomb. She graduated from Laytonville High school, attended California State University in Chico and is now employed with the Mendocino County Community Foundation. The groom is the son of Jackie Jacobs of San Diego and he works for Acme Rigging and Supply.

Birth Cable A daughter, Darby Anne, was born, Oct. 4,.2000, to Jeanine and Brian Cable of Ukiah. The new baby weighed seven pounds and 13 ounces. She is also welcomed by a sister, Ashley. The date is Nov. 4t, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the cost is free! Agencies from Lake and Mendocino County will show you how to prepare for any situation or emergency, large or small. Just take a gander at these names: American Red Cross, National Guard, California Department of Forestry, Ukiah Valley Medical Center, Ukiah and Lake County Police Departments, Ukiah Valley Fire Department, Amateur Radio Group, Ukiah High School, Lake and Mendocino County Offices of Emergency Services and more.

Handouts, instructions and demonstrations will take place to make it easy for you to prepare yourself and your family. This is a family event and every member of the family can benefit. In addition to the agencies mentioned above, local citizens aka "experts" in their fields of expertise from Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma counties, will set up booths and tables with information and demonstrations On: to create a 72-hour emergency kit. for home, office and automobile to entertain children in an emergency storage and preservation of non-food items conditions and heating safety planning care of the elderly supply oven cooking (an old art that is also great for camping) sanitation of books and photographs for the sick I could not list everything but you get the idea it is a complete quickee course on taking care of details, making sure you and your family are safe and stay safe, and how to react in most common emergencies. Forethought and prevention has always been the best way to tackle a situation.

When I went to my class reunion recently we were all saddened to 1 hear the names called out of classmates that fell in that war.

So do what you can, if you can even if that is just attending and showing your respect. The Veterans Dinner Dance, benefitting the Ukiah Senior Center will be held Saturday, Nov. 11. This could be a sellout as the event comes with appetizers, dinner and a program followed by dancing to a live band. Cost is $12 advance, and $15 at the door.
