Mr. Tome was born in Amarillo and had lived here all his life. He was graduated from Tascosa High School in 1976, where he was a cadet senior chief 1 petty officer of the Tascosa Junior. Naval ROTC unit. He was employed by Toot'n'Totum Food Stores.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Tomme. of the one brother. Michael, of the home; and i a grandfather, F.J.

"Van" Holcombe. 69, died today in Midwest City. Okla. Services are pending with Blackburn' Shaw Memorial Chapel. Mr.

Holcombe, born in Hope. had lived in Amarillo 40 years before moving to Midwest City 2 1 a years ago. He was a barber. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Survivors include the widow.

Jones had lived in Amarillo for 38 years. He was a retired custodian from Amarllo High School. Survivors include the widow, Clara three sons, L.J. of Nashville. Clenon of Los Angeles.

Alabama, died yesterday. Services are pending with Schooler- Gordon Funeral Directors. Mr. Merrell was a native of Swink, and moved to Amarillo from Oklahoma 30 years ago. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his widow. Nannie; one daughter, Mrs. Eurma Martin of Amarillo; one sister. Mrs. Elsie Pryke of Toledo.

Evelyn Fisher of Fritch: one niece. Mrs. Pamela Southern of Amarillo; and one grandson. Quarterly Dividend Increased by SPS Directors of Southwestern Public Service Co. today increased the regular quarterly dividend to 27Va cents a share on common, payable Dec.

1 to stockholders of record as of Nov. 15. The action raises the annual dividend to $1.10 a share from 98 cents. Additionally, action was taken to raise dividends on various series of preferred stock $100 par in amounts per share ranging from 92Vi cents to $2. And on the four series of preferred -525 par dividends were raised in amounts ranging from 27''i cents to 55' rents.

City Man Killed In Indiana Crash A M-year-old Amarillo man was killed when a tanker rig ran off a road in Indiana and struck an embankment and two trees. Kenneth E. Grogan died Monday. United Press International reported the accident occurred along Indiana 63 south of West Lebanon in Warren County. Ind.

Young Jeremy died 1:45 a.m. yesterday at Northwest Texas Hospital after being critically injured in a home accident Sunday. He suffered head and throat injuries when his head was accidentally caught in a toy box. Police said Jeremy was reaching into his toy box for something when the lid apparently collapsed, trapping his head. Knocked unconscious, he was unable to breathe.

When the parents discovered the shortly after the accident, attempts were made to revive him. Jeremy was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital and placed under intensive care until his death. Stiff, who said the trouble-plagued system that is in use at the Air Terminal would be phased out if the com- 1 mission gives its approval to his re- 1 quest. TO 21.00 14.90 Redistributed Funds Will Buy Vehicles, Bedding The J41.665 in redistributed funds for the Amarillo State Center for Human Development will be used to purchase three vehicles and 45 mattresses, said Sue Buckner, information officer for the center.

The funds are part of $4.1 million unused funds the Texas Board of Mental Health Mental Retardation Is redistributing. The purchase of mattresses is part of a statewide move to replace mattresses presently in MHMR facilities with less flammable ones. The move was spurred when a recent fire at the Austin State School resulted in a mattress fire-connected fatality. The mattresses made by the Texas Department of Corrections will be made of borax-treated cotton to make them less flammable. The funds will also be used to replace one of the two school buses now used by the Amarillo State Center to transport clients to and from home and the center.

The other two vehicles will be used in the state center's outreach centers. Amarillo's State Center has 10 satellite centers in surrounding communities. Some of these centers are workshops providing contract work for mentally handicapped individuals needing a semisheltered work environment. The new vehicles will be used to distribute the work and clients among the various satellite centers. The Texas Board of Mental Health Mental Retardation has 26 facilities throughout the state, including state schools and community centers, servicing 18,000 clients, Mrs.

Asked if the temporary repairs will be sufficient to maintain the system in working order until work can be completed on the proposed new system Stiff said, "Of course, you've got to be an optimist" Stiff said he will seek approval of a new lighting system rather than rehabilitation of the existing system. He said the cost of designing and installing a new system can be financed with 90 per cent federal funds and a 10 per cent city funds.

Assistant City Manager Jerry McGurie said the existing lighting system in use at the Air Terminal was installed more than 20 years ago by the U.S. Air Force. Vandals Fire Gun At Canyon High School Police were seeking today the vandals who shot out a front door and windows of Canyon High School. Officers said vandals fired two shotgun blasts Sunday at the front door of the school. The shots were reported fired from a white sedan on the north school parking lot.

The framework and glass of the front door and windows of the school's main entrance were damaged, officers said. 36 Bands Competing In Marching Contest Marching bands from 36 high schools and three junior high schools are competing today in the University Interscholastic League Marching contest at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium at Canyon. Running simultaneously with the marching contest are twirling contests. Contestants in the twirling competition include 89 majorettes performing individually, one duet, five trios, thirteen quartets and two sextets. Contestants come from schools in Region I.

Twirling judges are two former band majorettes. Patsy Kaiser of Amarillo is a former Texas Tech Band majorette. Judy Hart of Clovis, N.M., is a former majorette with the West Texas State University Band. Don Baird of WTSU is the contest director. Vatican Delegate To Visit Diocese Archbishop Jean Jadol.

Apostolic Delegate to the United States, will arrive Friday in Amarillo for the 50th anniversary of the Diocese of Amarillo. An official representative of Pope Paul VI. Archbishop Jadot is the highest member of the U.S. hierarchy to visit Amarillo. Archbishop Jadot will be the principal concelehrant at a Golden Jubilee Mass Sunday, climaxing the observance of the diocese's anniversary.

It will be at 4 p.m. in the Civic Center Auditorium. A private dinner with visiting bishops and civic officials will honor Archbishop Jadot at 6 p.m. Saturday. A public reception will be held at 8 p.m.

Saturday in the Universe Room of St. Anthony Hospital. Following the mass Sunday, a dinner will honor all visiting clergymen at 6:30 p.m. in the Universe Room. Archbishop Jadot will be the guest of Bishop Lawrence DeFalco, Bishop of the Diocese of Amarillo.

4 Held on Bond In Theft Case Four Panhandle men were in Carson County jail today in lieu of $5,000 bond on charges of thefl. Carson County authorities said Kelvin Hombcck. 18: Donald Loudermilk, 17. and Cory Riley, 17. were stopped along with a 16-year-old companion last night by Department of Public Safety troopers at the intersection of U.S.

66 and Airport Boulevard in connection with a till-tapping at a Panhandle gas station. Carson County sheriff's deputies said the four were accused of taking $138 from a Panhandle service station about 7p.m. yesterday. Deputies said the sen-ice attendant told them two men went into the station and emptied the register while he filled their car with gas. The pair then reportedly paid for the gas with some of the money they took from the register, deputies said.

The Department of Public Safety troopers and Potter County sheriff's deputies stopped the four after receiving a call from the Carson County sheriff's office to watch for a red, late model car. Crash Victim's Rites Pending Services were pending today for a 27- year-old truck driver who died of injuries suffered in an accident near Boise City, Okla. Joe Bob Bahr of Chickasha. died yesterday afternoon in an Amarilio hospital after being tranferred from Dalhart. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers said Bahr's truck, carrying a load of steel pipe, apparently went out of control and slid 475 feet before overturning and bursting into flames.

State police said the accident occurred about 9 a.m. yesterday about 15 miles south of Boise City on U.S. 385. Bahr was transferred to High Plains Baptist Hospital yesterday afternoon where he died about 3 p.m. Services were pending today with Servier Funeral Home of Chickasha.

Bahr was a native of Anadarko, and was employed by H.J. Jeffery's Trucking Co. of Oklahoma City. He was a member of the College Heights Baptist Church of Chickasha. Survivors include the widow, and one daughter.

Jennifer, of the home Poster Display To Be Judged Halloween posters by elementary students in the Amarilio public schools are on display in Sunset Center through Saturday. The display is under the direction of Betty Jo Foster, director of art for the Amarilio public schools. The entries will be judged by public school art teachers and the Sunset Center Merchants Association will provide prizes for the lop five posters in each grade. The display will be open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
