Spending two days in a coma, Rizzo is said to be in stable condition and is not suffering from any long term effects. Rodney Anoia, who wrestled in recent years as Yokozuna, died Oct. 22 in London of a heart attack while on a wrestling tour in Europe, according to WWF.com. He left the WWF after he was unable to pass the New York State Athletic Commission physical. Because his failure would be recognized across the country in many states with commissions, the WWF was unable to use him.

The WWF had indicated if he lost enough weight and got in shape so he could pass a physical, it would consider rehiring him. Bret Hart who has been released from WCW and is now a free agent has left the world of professional wrestling. When asked by a reader what options Bret has at this point now that he's gone from WCW (which will most likely be owned by Vince McMahon in a short time), Bruce Allen, Bret's agent, simply said, "Well there is ECW, but you'll never see Bret Hart wrestle again." I watched an indy show in Shelby, Ohio, a while back and was impressed with how hard the guys worked for the crowd of about 300. Thewrestlers bled, sweat and paid the price, Jplair is fond of saying. They put on a retry decent show considering most of them "made less than 50 bucks that night. A couple of young stars really went at it, going into the crowd, fighting on the stage and giving the fans their money's worth.

One of them told me after the match that he is willing to do this with the hope that someday one of the Big Three will notice him. He drove down from Michigan and usually works weekend shows, holding down a regular job during the week. I'm constantly amazed at how hard the ECW guys work. I spoke with Kid Kash in Cleveland after he and Jason Knight had driven from Johnson City, that morning, a 9-hour drive. He wrestled a tough match, drove to Dayton for a show the next night and then returned home, all in a span of 48 hours.

969-2059 Professional wrestling has changed dramatically over the past decade. Pyrotechnics have reached deafening proportions, ring entrances sometimes last longer than the actual matches and wrestlers have gotten fatter contracts thanks to pay-per-views and cable television programming. But there's something missing, particularly among the established wrestlers. How else do you explain why Diamond Dallas Page, Scott Hall, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, until recently Lex Luger and others sit at home rather than work house shows and TV tapings? The six and sometimes seven-figure contracts have made these guys lazy and unmotivated. Heck, stay home and collect your paycheck or traverse the country living out of a suitcase.

No brainer. Stay at home and wait for the postman, right? While I don't begrudge the guys making the big bucks, is it too much to ask to actually show up and work once in a while? It's refreshing to see stars like Chris Benoit, Triple Rob Van Dam, Mike Awesome and Booker T. work hard in a match. Actually work up a sweat and entertain the fans. Aging stars like Kevin Nash and ailing ones like The Undertaker opt for shorter matches than they did 10 years ago when their bodies were still in one piece.

That's understandable. But it's inexcusable for Nash to flippantly say all he wants to do is show up half-drunk, do a quick stint on the microphone, slam a few guys in the ring and then get back to the hotel bar.
