ILLINOIS 7 Yanks Subject to British Courts By Associated Pests LONDON—The, House of Commons approved a bill Monday night reducing the immunity from trial in British courts of American military personnel stationed in Britain. The bill provides the Americans, alnoR with all other North Atlantic Treaty *orces stationed in Britain, henceforth will be tried by their own courts martial only for offenses committed while on duty. A wartime agreement previously gave the U. S. tribunals the right to try American service personnel here for al' offenses. Other allied personnel were entirely subject to the British courts' jurisdiction. Under the jaew regulations, which now go to the House of Lords for final approval. NATO personnel committing an offense while off duty will face British courts. 1,000 Idled by Bridge Blaze By AssSclatad Prsn HARRISBURG. 111.—Fire start- inp in dry grass destroyed a railroad bridge late Sunday, forcing 1,000 miners into idleness. Vernon Chamber of Commerce through its secretary, Walton P. Gillespie, today disclosed that the school traffic safety control fund stands at $379.97 as of today. This represents the profit derived from presentation of the home tal»nt play "John Loves Mary", on. two different occasions. While the amount available is insufficient to purctlase any signal lights at the present time, the money has been placed in a separate fund earmarked for the pro- |ect, and will be used only when sufficient money is raised to complete one or more projects. "We do not at the present time know what we can do to raise the amount required to complete the project," Gillespie stated, "but we certainly intend to keep plugging away until we finally get the job done. Naturally we are disappointed that the play did not show a greater profit, but we did try our best to give the people of Mt. Vernon a good show for their money. All who did see the show have been high 'n their praise of the production, and many 'nave stated that they would like to see more such plays made available in Mt. Vernon." A breakdown of the financial picture shows $634.30 income from the sale of tickets and advertising when the play was first presented in August (with $37.00 outstanding as of this date for program advertising), and $555.70 raised from the sale, of tickets for the second performance early (his month. Expenses totaled $502.78 for the first performance and $344.25 for the second — a combined total of $837.03.
