F. Garner, 83, Passes Away Benjamin F. Garner, d3, a long time resident of Redlands, died today at his home, 1136 Tribune street. He had been a veteran of the Spanish-American war. He had been retired for some years from his work as a plumber.

Mr. Garner was a native of ('nadilla, Neb. He entered the army at Lincoln, June 20, 1898 and was mustered out May 11, 1899. He had been a member of the Harry Wallace camp, United Spanish War Veterans. He leaves his wife, Minnie.

AT CENTER ACROSS FROM THE NEW DAILY FACTS BUILDING Roehling, In Iron Lung Nine Years, Dies Eugene Roehling, 47, teacher, who spent the past in an iron lung, a victim of the Veterans Administration He and his family had avenue. The case of Mr. Roehling and former Mayor Hugh Folkins were among the most prominent polio cases in Redlands. Mr. Roehling received nationwide attention in 1951 when article titled Wonderful Can" which he co-authored with Jim Stangier, appeared in the Saturday Evening Post.

The two had been iron lung patients together at Birmingham General hospital at Van Nuys. The story related their experiences in the iron Stricken in 1948 Mr. Roehling was stricken July 12, 1948, and two days later his iliness was diagnosed as polio and he was taken to the San Bernar dino county hospital. Two weeks later he was transferred to Bir. mingham and when that facility was closed several years later he moved to the Veterans hos pital at Long Beach.

For a time he showed slight improvement but never sufficient; to permit his removal iron lung for any length of time. His family made weekly visits with him at the hospital. Prior to his illness he had been lands junior high school. He had been scoutmaster of Troop 13. and was a member of the Redlands safety council.

He served with the army in World War II. Mrs. Rochling is a sixth grade teacher at Victoria school. They two children, Peter 14, and Tina, 13. Born in San Jose Mr.

Roehling was born at San Jose in 1910 and finished high school at Monterey. He attended Jose State college and was graduated in 1935 and took graduate work at both Stanford and University of California. He taught at Needles, then came to Redlands to teach sixth grade in McKinley school in September, 1938. In 1940 he began teaching mathematics at Redlands junior high school. He resigned to enter the army March 14.

1942. After attending officer training school at Camp Hood, he was commissioned a second lieutenant and for a time was an instructor. In January of 1946 he was released from the army as a first lieutenant at Fort Bragg, N. C. The following September he re.

turned to bis classrooms and taught mathematics for two years at Redlands junior high. He had a contract to teach again in 1943 at the time he was stricken. Services will be announced later. Police Probe Auto Crashes Cars driven by Patricia A. Skaggs.

Guy Bogart, Beaumont Civic Leader, Dies Memorial services for Guy Bogart, Beaumont civic leader and publicist who died yesterday, will be conducted at 3:30 p.m: tomorrow at Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont. A native of Indiana, he was 74 at time of his death. which was attributed to a heart attack then suffered last week. He had lived in Beaumont since 1923 and in California since 1913. He was perhaps best known his role as official publicist for Oak Glen apples and Cherry valley cherries.

A former midwestern newspaper man, he had been semiretired since coming to Beaumont, although he found time to be mayor of the city. He was active in the National Cat association and was a director and past president of the Ifolland society of America. He is survived by a son, Robort, a Kaiser Steel executive who lives in Beaumont, and a sister, Mrs. Idyll Burgess, Indiana.
