Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Funeral Home. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Fairfield County or St Vincent DePaul Society.

15,1997. She was born Feb. 18, 1909, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Albert and Freda Braun Scharpf. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Smithficld United Congregational Church of Pittsburgh. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Lou (Art) Wallace of Lancaster and Rose Marie (Jose) Succar of Ibiza, Spain; four grandsons, David, Richard and Steven Wallace and Joseph Succar, three great-grandsons; and a brother, George Scharp of Vienna, Va.

She was preceded in death by her hasband, Fred Hough Hood; brothers, Carl, Edward, Howard, William and Albert Scharpf; and a sister, Helen Scharpf. Funeral arrangements were by Beinhauers of Pittsburgh, where funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Mary Burton officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Rider, 79, of 508 55th Vienna, W.Va., died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, at his home. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church of Marietta and retired from Diamond Department Store. He served in the U.S.

Navy from 1943 to 1945 and then worked at Wiseman's Department Store in Lancaster. He was a member of Lancaster Lodge No. 57 and Lancaster York Rite Bodies. He also worked for Bonhams of Marietta and Bradshaw Diehl of Huntington, W.Va. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Frieda Rider of Lancaster and Marie Shields of Columbus; niece, Nanette Rider of Lancaster; and nephews, Carlton Rider of Lancaster and Bradley Rider of Lancaster.

He was preceded in death by wife, Marjorie Shield Rider; brothers, Wayne and Lee Rider; sister, Edith Kolb; sister-in-law, Laura Belle Rider, and parents, William and Myrtle Wolfe Rider. Graveside funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Forest Rose Cemetery, with the Rev. James Couts officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to St.

Peter Lutheran Church building fund. Elfie H. Atkin, 94, Lancaster, died Monday, Feb. 7, 1997, at the residence. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, and Olivedale Senior Citizens.

She Is survived by her son, David M. Atkin of Lancaster; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters and brother-in-law, Susan and Clarence Tanner of Fairfax, and Albertine Harrison of Santa Barbara, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Atkin; three brothers; and one sister. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Crestview Gardens of Forest Rose Cemetery, with the Rev.

William Schram of First Presbyterian Church officiating. No calling hours will be observed. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Fairfield County. Arrangements were by Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster.

Paul Benson Paul H. "Sock" Benson, 80, who was born and lived all of his life in Carroll, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, He was a member of Carroll Senior Citizens and was the 1996 king of Carroll Old Timers Festival. He attended Fairfield Church of Christ and was retired from F.C. Brengman Associates, Carroll.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Evelyn Hines Benson; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jeri Benson; daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Will Burns and Kathy and Richard Bethea; four grandchildren, Patrick (Sue) Benson, Amanda Benson and Chelsea and Andrew Bethea; two great-grandchildren, P.J. and Kayla Beason; sister, Mary Glick, all of Carroll; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jim and Marie Hines, Lloyd and Vera Hoffman, all of Bradenton, and Ray and Helen Drumm of Ralph Hritz James A. Hughes died at Kobacker House, Hospice at Riverside Grant on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997. A retiree of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania, he worked more than 31 years with various Blue Cross and Blue Shield plaas.

Hughes was a life member of Ohio State University Alumni Association. He received a bachelor of science degree in math from OSU and a master of business administration from Xavier University. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves and served on active duty from June 1955 to September 1958. He was employed by IBM and North American Aviation in electronic engineering positions before beginning his career with Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

Hughes was a member of Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church in Pittsburgh and Humanist Community of Central Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Leist; brothers, William Gene A. and Edward sons, James J. and Thad stepsons, Gregory L. Hines and J.

Wesley Hines; and four grandchildren. He has made an anatomical be-queathal. A memorial service will be held at Griswold Center, Worthington, at 4 p.m. Saturday. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be given to Kobacker House, American Cancer Society and Homeless Families Foundation of Columbus.

Betty Parrett Betty J. Parrett 74, Thornvillc, died Ryan Matthew Fletcher, 2, Lancaster, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, at his residence. He is survived by his parents, Michael E. and Amy R.

Wentz Fletcher, sister, Krista; brother, Tyler, maternal grandparents, Raymond and Sue Wentz; paternal grandparents, Louis and Donna Fletcher; maternal great-grandparents, Ralph and Alice Wentz, all of Lancaster; paternal great-grandparents, Esther Fletcher of Pleasantville and Mary Hampton of Junction City; maternal great-great-grandmother, Clara Wentz of Lancaster, and aunts and uncles, Alan Wentz of Lancaster, Chris and Nancy Wentz of Logan and Elizabeth Robbins and Julie Racicot, both of Lancaster. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Philip A. Gardner officiating.

Hritz, 81, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at his residence. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Lancaster and retired from Anchor Hocking Glass Corp. after 43 years service in 1977.

After retirement, he took up golf and played regularly as a member of Estate Club until 1996. As a member of Olivedale Senior Citizens, he delivered Meals on Wheels for 1 1 years. He also enjoyed sitting on his front porch, greeting friends and working crossword puzzles. He is survived by his wife of 59 Mary; daughters, Julia (Richard) Mathias of Westcrville and Sally of Columbus; sons, R. Thomas of Pickcrington and Col.

Stephen J. (Susan) Hritz, U.S. Air Force, of O'Fallon, grandchildren, Joel, Jennifer and Jonathan Mathias of Columbus and Christopher E. Hritz, U.S. Navy, of San Diego; and many other relatives and friends.
