The 6-3, 210 pounder was the chief cog in Lancaster's powerful running game. He was also all-district and special mention all-state. O'Rourke is making his first appearance on a post season team at the defensive end spot.

The 6-1 190 pound senior registered 21 solo tackles and 48 assists through 10 contests. He added an interception and one tackle for four yard loss to his statistics. Sprague was also ignored on the all-district and all-state nominations, but grabln-d an interior lineman soot in voting Winfield Yankees By IIERSCIIF.L NISSENSON Al' Sports Writer NEW YORK (AP) Yankee Stadium may not be the Bronx Zoo any more but New York City is' still a lion den. The source for that information is Reggie -Jackson, who was on hand Monday for the end of Dave Winfieid's cross-country baseball odyssey. "I'm sure we'll talk and rap about how to deal with the Jackson said shortly-after Winfield became the richest free agent in baseball history, signing with the New York Yankees for a reported 8-10 years at something approaching $1.5 million a year, yet insisting he could have had more from other teams.

"It's a lion's den," Jackson said of New York City. "It's the greatest place to play, but also the most difficult. It can be Disneyland or it can lie hell." The 29-year-old Winfield, who opted for free agency after starring with the San Diego Padres for eight frustrating seasons, is used to the latter atmosphere. He was roundly booed in San Diego last season after announcing his intentions. "I'm not worried about that." Shawn Evans Coach Bill Biggers was named Coach of the Year.

Co-champions Upper Arlington landed seven firsts and five seconds with running back Tom Wheary touted as Back of the Year. Zanesville grabbed first-team spots with senior wide receiver Junior McBride and interior lineman Rich Stephens. Marietta's tight end Scott Barrows and Grove City linebacker Steve Hoyt completed the first team. Hoyt was named Lineman of the Year. Monday afternoon shortly after it was announced the former San Diego Padre Stanhery Girls Cagers 3-1 )h by his colleagues.

The 6-1, 195-pound senior led the team in tackles for four yard losses with four and collected 28 solos and 34 assists. Second team honors went to fullback Tom Graham, defensive tackle Dave Ten-nison, linebacker Rob Reed and cornerbacks Larry Dilley and DougOgilvie. Graham is the only Lancaster junior to earn plaudits. He ran for a team-high 701 yards in 135 attempts this season for a 5.19 yard per carry average and scored a team-high 42 points. The second-year starter hauled in five passes for 54 yards and recovered four fumbles.

He was another all-district and special mention all-stater for the Gales. Tennison was voted Lancaster's outstanding defensive lineman for his play this season. The 60, 205-pound performer had 43 solos and 43 assists, both second best for Lancaster. Only Reed had better tackle statistics with 60 solos and 54 assists. Both had one tackle for loss and both collected their third nomination to a post season team.

Dilley and Ogilvie round out the selections. Though both were lauded as defensive backs, Dilley provided his greatest excitement running back kicks. The 5-8 senior speedster returned three punts and one kickolf for touchdowns. He added 38 solo tackles, 14 assists and a fumble recovery to the Gales' cause. Ogilvie chipped in 22 solos Joins Troupe he said.

"After what I went through my final year with the Padres, I think I can handle just about anything. I enjoyed the time I spent in San Diego, but now I am anxious to see how I perform with Ihe motivation of playing for a championship contender." For that reason, Winfield said he chose the Yankees over remaining in the National League with the crosstown New-York Mets, who staggered home fifth in the NL East after three consecutive last-place" finishes. During Winfieid's eight-year career in San Diego, the Yankees won four American League East Division titles, three pennants and two world championships while the Padres finished as high as fourth only twice. "The Mets were right in it until the very end," said the 6-foot-6 outfielder's agent, Al Frohman. "But basically they just weren't in as good a position talentwise." Winfield declined to disclose the length of his new contract, except to say that it was "definitely not the highest olfer." ting, since the National Football League won't have the usual complement of teams on the field.
