Sundqy, April 3, 1960 San Antonio EXPRESS AND NEWS 'Headliners' to Be Honored at Matrix Dinner MRS. RENA MAVERICK GREEN DR, WALDINE TAUCH DR. EDDA VON BOSE MRS. FRANK ROSENGREN Fivs outstanding San Antonio women will be honored at the ninth annual Matrix Table dinner in the St. Anlhony's Anacacho Room, at 7 p.m.

Saturday, April 16. The San Antonio A a Chapter of Theta Sigma Phi, national fraternity for women in journalism, will present Head- Jiner Awards to: Mrs. Rcna Maverick Green, citizen; Dr. Waldlne Tauch, field of art; Dr. Edda von Boso, medical science; Mrs.

Frank Rosengren, field of books, and Eve Bartlett, Theta Sigma Phi. Inez Robb, the nation's top woman columnist, will be Matrix speaker. Her column, which appears daily in the San Antonio News, is carried in 130 news- papers across the country. A world traveler, Mrs. Robb- visited Russia last year and will Include impressions of this trip in her speech.

Mrs. Robb was Matrix speaker here five years ago, and was asked lo return by "popular demand." She will be accompanied by her husband, J. Addison Robb, New York advertising executive. Mrs. Fred Mrs.

George Compton, and Mrs. Howard Waugh compose the "honors" committee. Other committees are: Reservations and Invitations: Mrs. Edward Kuekes, Miss Caroline Shelton and Mrs. James E.

Mutli Mrs. Norma Massey announces the engagement of her daughter, Miss Faye Maureen Mnssey, to Jack Henry Muth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Muth. The bride-elect is a graduate ot Tivy High School, In Kerrville.

Maverick," "Swlsher Memoirs" and other historical works, An avid worker for woman's suffrage, served as state chairman of the National Woman's party which was instrumental in having Texas the first southern state to ratify the Federal amendment. As one of the founders of the City Committee during World War she was active in getting the first policewomen for San Antonio. One of the founding members and a former president ot the Conservation Society, the main cause Mrs. Green promotes today is the conservation of San Antonio as a beautiful historic city. Other organizations in which she has played an active part arc the San Antonio Woman's Club, the Daughters ot the Republic of Texas, United Daughters of.

the Confederacy and the San Antonio Art League. Widow of the late Judge Robert B. Green, Mrs. Green is the mother of four children, Mary Vance Green, who was chosen Outstanding Woman in Art for 1959 by readers of the San Antonio Express and News; Mrs. Leslie Fenstermakcr, Maverick Green and the late Martha Green Houston.

Dr. Tauch As a high school girl in Brady, Waldlne-Tauch launched her career by molding from a pound of fresh butter an old- fashioned, berufflcd lady, plying the dasher of a church. This creation, known as the "Butter Lady," was exhibited at the county fair, where it impressed the members of ihe Brady Tuesday Club. They raised the money and persuaded Dr. Pompeo Copplni to take the young'artist into his studio for instruction.

She worked with the teacher in his San Antonio Studio through many years, and finally accompanied the Coppinis when they moved to I a o. Childless, they considered her their own daughter and bequeathed the original Coppinl Studio fo her, where she now works. She Is listed Who's Who In America," "International' Who's Who," "Who's Who In American Women," "Who's Who in the Southwest," and "Who's Who in American Art." Dr. Tauch is a member of the National Society of Painters and the Southern States Art League, Artists Professional League and Society of Medalists. Among her best known works are the "Pippa Statue," done in bronze for the Robert Browning Bldg.

at Baylor University at Waco; the "Moses Austin" figure in Military Plaza; and the "Gulf Breeze," the figure of a young girl in Witte Museum. Bose For work as a public health physician, Dr. Edda Von Bose was cited as one of 12 Medical Women o( the Year by the American i a Women's Assn: at Its meeting In Washing- tori, D.C., in-1958. Her entire medical career, which began in 1915 when she received her degree from (lie University of Texas i a School, was devoted to various phases of public health. Although Dr.

Von Bose retired from the San Antonio City Health Dept. as medical director of Tuberculosis Treatment Center and City Chest Clinic in 1958, she continues to work as a volunteer In public health projects. Medical Officer As chief medical officer at the Federal Reformatory for Women at Alderson, W. from 192941, she was treating up to 2,000 patienls at a time In the Reformatory's venereal disease and addiction clinics. She headed (he Venereal Disease Clinic in San Antonio from 1945 until 1950 when she transferred to the City Health Department's Tuberculosis Treatment Center and Chest Clinic.

Dr. Von Bose is a member of The American Medical, Texas Medica.l, Bexar County Medical, American Women's Medical Associations; Trudeau Society, Texas Tuberculosis Bexar County Tuberculosis Texas -State Public Health and U.S.- Mexico Border Public Health Assn. She is also active in American Assn. of University Women, Zonta International, Business and Professional Club, State Assn. of Texas Pioneers, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Rosengren learned Ihe book business from her late husband, Frank Rosengren. They had married when she was a student in the University of Chicago. They moved their bookshop from Chicago to San Antonio in 1335, because they had to move to warm climate for their son's health. They knew one person here, the late Harry Hertzberg.

Mr. Rosengren had dealt mainly In rare and old books. He was an expert ot first editions and fine bindings, ind at the time of his death was working on bibliography of rare books. Since his death, Mrs. Rosen- gren has made her book shop a unique influence.

Florence Rosengren is a member of Zonta, Conservation Society of San Antonio, the Art League and the Women's National Book Assn. But, it is in her use of her position between Ihe artist and the producer that she is uniquely valuable. Eve Bartlett In keeping with tradition, each year the San Antonio Alumnae Chapter of Theta Sigma Phi chooses one of its own members to be honored as a "Headliner." This year, the member is Eve Bartlett, selected in recognition for her achievements as a professional and volunteer journalist. At the present time, Mrs. Bartlett is serving her second term as president of the local chapter of Theta Sigma Phi.

During her tenure as president, the San Antonio Chapter won its. first national award, "for general chapter excellence and more especially for outstanding community and won the second place silver bowl in the San Antonio Express and News Club Projects Mrs. Bartlett serving her first year as president of the Texas Woman's Press Is public relations chairman of the National Federation of' Press Women, and public relations chairman of the Fifth District of Texas Federation of Women's Clubs; Is a board member of Community Guidance Center and EVE BARTLETT of Girl's Council, and is corresponding secretary of the Women of the Church of Northwood Presbyterian Church, and is a member of Zonta International and the San Antoniij Press Club. Both Mrs. Bartlett and her husband, Lt.

Col. Moody W. Bartlett, are interested in young people. He assists with the Opli- mists work with boys and sha lias aided the Bexar County and San Antonio Council of Girl Scouts. SANDERSON-Mr.
