I 4 II Si.i- MONDAY market reached its highest level In the first hour and Us lowest In tha last hour as cross-currents produced a llirou ghly mixed list. The biggest loser among the slock in Ihe average was DuPonl, off liile tlm biggest gainer was Westinghouse with a rise of The close was off 2.S8. TUESDAY It was a day for Ihe blue chips, with Telephone, Kodak, du Pont and Car- bide rising sharply and with 21 of Ihe 30 issues in the average posting advances.

Volume continued light, however, dampening enthusiasm over ihe day's advance of 3.45, which 1)ro "Sht a new high close. WEDNESDAY --Telephone's (ATT) bargain offer Io holders giving Ihem rights to buy at 100 stimulated heavy activity in thai issue and in ils rights, with a lolal of more lhan worth pf stock and rights changing hands. The stock reached another all- time high, and its acliyily sputred interest in other issues. Despite Ihe fact that New York banks and olher institutions were closed for Lincoln's birthday, volume improved. The close reached another new all-time high and was up 2.GG.

THURSDAY --Buying and selling pressure was in balance and Ihis was reflected In tho hourly readings in which the average was never as much as a full point in either direction from the previous close. Volume increased to Ihe highest level in 13 tradings days, but remained below shares. The close was off a modest 0.40. FRIDAY fas as blue chips were concerned, the bears appeared to be winning a struggle for supremacy. Declines among Ihe issues in the average were twice as many as Ihe advances, but sharp gains in Eastman Kodak, up and United Aircraft up kept the average on the upside by a minute 0.14.

SUMMARY Despite mlcrmillcnt assaulls of downward pressure, Ihe average managed another advance on the week, maintaining its record of no weekly losses since Christmas. The average scrapped within pennies on an intrad-day basis of Ihe 800 level, which has no major significance, but which is psychologically important.
