Six computer rankings calculated in inverse points order (25 for No.

1, 24 for No. 2, etc.) are used to determine the overall computer component. The highest and lowest ranking for each team Is dropped, and the remaining four are added and divided by 100 (the maximum possible points) to produce a Computer Rankings Percentage. The six computer ranking providers are Anderson Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, Jeff Sagarin, and Peler Wolfe. Each computer ranking accounts for schedule strength in Us formula.

The BCS Average is calculated by averaging the percent totals of the Harris Interactive, USA Today Coaches and Computer polls. WL PF PA PF PA Mich. St. 6 1 183 159 9 2 296 214 Penn St. 5 1 188 84 9 1 399 124 Ohio St.

He has finished in the top 10 in seven Chase races and his lowest finish was the 15th last week at Texas.

But he still had a sizable lead over Edwards, and could have clinched Sunday. So his throng of friends of hometown El Cajon, made the trip to Phoenix and crowded his pit box to watch him tick off the laps. When he passed Jamie McMurray on a late restart, his friends -r- which included professional baseball players Brian and Marcus Giles pumped their fists in celebration, Johnson started from the pole but gave way to McMurray on the first lap. He didn't take the lead until Lap 81, but was never challenged from there. McMurray briefly moved out front again after a round of late pit stops, but Johnson blew past him in Turn 2 of a restart and was hardly challenged again.

Kurt Busch made a brief run at him in the closing laps, but graciously settled for second and praised Johnson for his skillful late pass. McMurray was third, followed by Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Jeff Burton and David Ragan. With the win, cash-strapped General Motors wrapped up its 32nd NASCAR manufacturer's championship. Florida Continued from IB from a BCS conference will be locked out of the national title game. Iowa Governor Chet Culver released a statement congratulating the Hawkeyes on their big victory.

"I join Hawkeyes everywhere in celebrating Iowa's upset victory over third-ranked Penn State," he said. The BCS might also want to send a thank you note to Kirk Ferentz's team. The next BCS mess comes ifwhen Texas Tech loses and somehow a single team must be chosen from several with one loss to play in the national championship game. Upwardly mobile Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly is putting together another swy prising run at the Big East championship with the Bearcats. Enjoy it while it lasts UC fans.

Kelly likely will be on the short list for almost every school with a coaching vacancy. After beating West Virginia 26-23 in overtime Saturday, Cincinnati is 7-2, tied for first in the Big East and No.

22 in the na-tioa All of that while juggling quarterbacks because of injuries. Kelly's also a charismatic salesman. He called out the local press corps last year for not covering the Big East media days. The school gave him a five-year deal last December that pays him about $1.3 million per year. Cincinnati probably can go higher, but it's doubtful the school could match wallets with the likes of Tennessee, Ciemson and Washington.

If Kelly stays at Cincinnati beyond this season, he's either extremely loyal or not thrilled with the choices available. who they are to fight until they step into the ring for the first time. "You really can't plan for that," Miller said. "You just give it what you've got." Danny "The Raw Dog" Scheitler of Marion was planning to do just that until he suffered an injury this past week which will keep him out of the event. "I was definitely ready for this year until I got hurt," Scheitler said. "I was psyched for it. But I will be in there next year, for sure." Taylor Mays, Rey Maualuga and the rest of the Trojans' defense is the best in the land. Its latest victim was California, pummeled in a 17-3 USC victory. But USC's defenders play with a nasty streak that occasionally crosses the line between aggressive and dirty. The Trojans seems willing to give up the odd 15-yard penalty if it helps intimidate an opponent. The Trojans' confidence veers toward cockiness on both sides of the ball and might account for play that is often sloppy.

Of course, it's hard to argue with the results. Quick hits More gaudy passing stats from the Big 12. Saturday's six winning quarterbacks threw for 1,897 yards and 23 touchdowns. Expect Buffalo coach Turner Gill to be mentioned as a candidate for several job openings, but DO NOT expect him to replace Greg Robinson at Syracuse. Gill probably won't want to take on another program that needs an extreme makeover.

osu Continued from IB beat the team in Evanston. Not wind, nor Wildcats, nor wildcatting teammates could put Pryor down. If he wasn't fighting 25 miles per hour breezes or a stacked deck of defenders, Pryor was overcoming adversities created by his teammates' penchant for personal fouls (I stopped counting at four) and fighting through repeated third-and-long predicaments. Taking a big step toward atoning for his game-turning fumble against Penn. State, Pryor averaged 22 yards on his nine completions and was practically unstoppable on third down, completing five of six passes for 135 yards.

Heisman-worthy OK, so quarterback Josh Vo-gelbach from Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., is not really Heisman Trophy-worthy. But he is noteworthy. In a loss 49-34 loss to Catholic University of America, Vogel-bach set NCAA Division III career records for total offense (13,753) and passing yards Both records were held by Westminster (Mo.) "I love moving the chains; I love playing that way," he said, sounding nothing like the -despondent youngster who could barely lift his head after the loss to Penn State.

"I love just getting the other crowd hyped up and then shoving it down their mouth." If not this year, Pryor will surely get his chance to incite a Rose Bowl crowd.
