Fields said. What use will be made of the site by. Sages' was unknown day although Mr. Fields said that Sages' plans are in an advanced stage. There was no confirmation of the transaction from Sages' Markets.

Milton M. Sage, who heads the firm, is out town for two weeks. No other official of the company was in a position to: comment on the transaction. The Fields shopping center was zoned for its use in April, 1956, but only after a bitter fight which eventually required an amendment to the zoning ordinance to clarify some of the wording pertaining to the so-called C-2 zone. The re zoning was good for just one year but Mr.

Fields asked, and received, an extension of one year as is provided by the zoning ordinance. This same extension was granted to the, Market Bassite at Brookside and San Mateo. Both these locations will revert back to residential in April, 1958, if construction of the intended is not underway Shopping The Fields shopping center site has been approved for 75,000 square feet of sales area plus an additional 210,000 square for parking. This is about park1.200 ling spaces. Readers Like Classified One Cent Sale The one-cent.

Poor Hunting On Opening I Day Of Deer Season Hunters encountered a very poor opening day Saturday for the deer season in the mountains east of Redlands according to Forest Ranger Oliver Holmes who said only 20 deer tags were validated at the Mill Creek Ranger station. He said that reports indicated there were 7,100 visitors in the forest over the weekend. Of these about 3,800 were hunters. He had no reports of the bag of -bear but at least one bear was taken by a group of Fontana hunters yesterday. He termed opening day "a light hunter load with poor hunting and the deer not in good condition generally." He believes they are still at high altitudes.

For the most part the hunters were: well behaved and orderly with only a few citations issued for illegal camp fires and smoking in brush covered areas, Mr. Holmes said. The air fire prevention patrol was maintained and there were no forest fires. General Appraising Analytical values furnished on all classes of real property. WINN'S DRUG STORE Corner Colton and Orange Daily 8-9 Sunday 9-5 FREE Parking S. Green Stamps Bell Withdraws, Leaves Shaw Only Democrat In Race Milton J. Bell, San Bernardino Democrat and the first person to declare himself in the race for the State Senate vacancy left by Judge James E. Cunningham, has now delcared himself completely out of the race.

This announcement came in the wake of the meeting of the County Democratic Central committee last. week when the committee made a surprise. endorsement of Stanford C. Shaw for the post. The vote for Shaw was a surprise because the leadership of the county's 23 Democratic clubs, along with some members of the central committee, had planned a nominating convention Sept.

29 with all candidates invited to express themselves. The convention will still be held but Democratic leaders generally are forced to agree the punch is lost. While this group could conceivably go along on the ment of some other candidate, this would nullify the big advantage they feel they have with two Republicans on the ballot. The special election Nov. 26 is a "winner-take-all" event with the candidate with the highest number of votes taking the important Senate seat regardless of party affiliation.

Mr. Bell reiterated his previous commitment to the Central Committee stating that he meant it when he said he woul in favor of the supported candidate. He noted that the Central mittee is the official party organization and as a member, feel there is a moral obligation, to carry out its wishes." Sylvan Park Section Closed The conversion of a portion of old Sylvan boulevard to new lawn got underway today in Sylvan park with a small section of the park to be closed for "about six weeks" while the lawn gets established.

Charles Dawson, park superintendent, stated that the section of Sylvan park between the plunge parking lot and University and between -the Zanja and Park avenue will be closed off to all public use during this "new lawn" period. Sylvan boulevard between Division street and University was officially closed last upon request of Mr. Dawson backed by the recommendation of the Park commission. The closure was based on the fear that growing use of the narrow, winding roadway was making it dangerous for children to walk from the south section of the park to the area of swings and slides. Since that time, a parking area has been constructed west of the plunge and Sylvan boulevard has been blocked off, torn up and graded to conform with adjacent grass areas.

The portion of the park being closed off while the new lawn gets established will have little effect on the average user, Mr. Dawson stated, because picnic tables and games are not located in this section. It mostly contains the plunge, lawn bowling greens and the park superintendent's house. Redlands Bus Line To Increase Fares 5 Cents Fares on the Redlands Transit Lines will be increased by 5 cents, effective October 1, according to Harry Johnson, owner and operator the local bus system.
