Monday, July 22, 1985 Newi Journal, Mansfield, O. Focus: entertainment 7-c WVIZ taking aggressive stance in public TV the contributors may be a young Bill Barrett VJaJJ sensitive "Montage" episode about the alcoholic priest. Goulden's aim now is to present a locally produced special on the first Monday of each month to alternate with the 8-to-9 p.m. duet of "Medi-Scene" and "North Coast Report" which will usually be seen at that time. First of these on the night of Sept 23 will be "City Beat," the host of which will be James Neff, Plain Dealer columnist This will be a half-hour show in tandem with "North Coast Report" In October the first-Monday special will be an hourlong episode of the award-winning "Medi-Scene." In November it will be a musical production, ''The First 100 Years of Jazz," hosted by TV3's Leon Bibb and jazz commentator Chris Colom-bi.

Thursday nights on Channel 25 promise to be attention-getters with Goulden's showcase for local rookie television producers, a series of one-hour show-off spots for TV and film showmen still unknown. "It's really tough for creators of new visuals to get their material on the air no matter bow good it may be," Goulden said. "We're looking for anything new and different and exceptional experimental, video or whatever." This new venture will begin in the fall, and who knows? among like these aren't often considered any more, especially by commercial stations. "I hope to exploit what we have here in the Cleveland area. We're going to be offering local music and theater.

We're going to be aggressive in our efforts to get more of our shows on national television by way of the PBS network." This up-and-at-'em spirit hasn't always been apparent at Channel 25, but it is now. In the recent local-awards competition, Channel 25 was nominated for Emmys in five categories and won in each category. One of the shows so honored was a Goulden production "Medi- genius with an idea and a touch that could give birth to another winner like "Montage." Following the dramatic interest shown its call-in project on the subject of intestinal cancer last week, Channel 3 plans now to present more such health hotlines.
