MARY GARDEN GREAT BELIEVER IN VARIETY Mary Garden, ta gifted prim a ijonna, who will be heard In recital at City Auditorium on Monday November 8 under tha auspices of lha spice of life," Js the most reliable of singers, ready at a moment's notice to do her part in whatever may fall to her lot- She never permits her physical conveniences to interfere' with her engagements, nor her private interests to stand in the way of Iha i ment of her professional duties. She has much more to her credit an honest and conscientious acquiescence in Ihe obligation of her contract. Announced for an important concert in Paris, tho train on which tho diva was traveling from Monto Curio met with an accident which not. only wrecked the majority of tho conches costing Miss Garden her life --bat delayed her appearance, at the appointed hour. Her maid, seated in another coach was entirely hors dc combat through a fractured arm and the singer's luggage, containing' her evening- gown ami some of her more valuable jewels, WHS pinned an over-turned coach.

Miss Garden promptly cam-2 to her own rescue. There waa no time to think of luggage, maid or jewels. With admirable- presence of mind she gathered up her energies and walked half a wile to the nearest point affording telegraphic communication; after a tedious wait she waa awarded with tha sight of an automobile, and was motored to the concert hall where her arrival was anxiously mailed. It was an hour after the lime scheduled for her first number iHbt in her rather disarranged traveling costume sho presented herself before a crowd of human beings filling the hall to suffocation. Calmly and collectively she explained her plight to tho highly interested sympathetic people.

Her music, as well as accompanist, having of necessity been left behind, she sat down nt tho piano and'gave song affct song and encore after encore, to her own accompaniment.
