LANCASTER. (O.) EAGLE-GAZETTE SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1943 To the Hearty Cooperation of Labor Lancaster Owes Much of its Growth and Prosperity Lancaster and Fairfield County owes its growth and prosperity to many things, not the least of which has been the splendid cooperation of labor in making our community one of the best in the world in which to live It is fitting, therefore, that we pause on this holiday to pay homage to labor the great vital force of the nation to the workingmen and women in Lancaster and surrounding territory who are the backbone of our industry to the workers whose willingness to do, their part throughout the years has helped our organization to obtain the position of leadership we today occupy in the glassware manufacturing industry. Ten years ago America was in the depths of depression. Yet here in Lancaster labor and management worked hand in hand, and together kept the wheels of industry turning. Yes, work was steady.

Paydays were regular. Ydu and your families went on living day by day happy, contented lives. You were fortunate to have a live, growing, expanding industry that thrived on adversity as the source of your employment We were fortunate to have you industrious, serious, capable employees, giving your all proving that our democratic way of life is still the only way or Americans. The years sped by. We prospered.

Production increased. Sales soared. Your hours of labor were reduced, working conditions improved, and withal, you earned more money. While the work you are doing today may not be the actual manufacture of war materials, it is of utmost importance to the War Effort. Consider the complete line of Fire-King ware which you make.

It replaces and releases critical metals so urgently needed for planes, tanks, guns, ships, and numerous other items of modern warfare. Then, too, the numerous other pieces of glassware you make are essential to civilian economy and are frequently in demand for our army and navy. In the post-war days ahead many changes and expansions are being planned. Continuous research and the, exigencies of wartime have already created new uses for glass and many more are in the offing. Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation, still in its youth as industries go, predicts a larger and larger glass industry for Lancaster a product oi further steady and continuous growth.

As in the past, regular employment, good wages and opportunity for all employees to forge ahead to key positions within the organization will be the order for the future. For all our loyal old employees, for their children growing to manhood and womanhood and entering our organization; and for the hundreds of returning employees, the veterans of World War II, these opportunities are open. Yes, Lancaster and surrounding Fairfield has. been a good place to live and work. It is today a good place to live and work.

And in the years to come we sincerely believe your greatest happiness and well being, as well as that of your children, 'will be achieved by working and living right here in Lancaster. ANCHOR HOCKING GLASS CORPORATION i.
