16 The Marion Star Friday April 20, 1984 LEGAL NOTICES LEGAL NOTICES Pleasant OICs ieldhouse work Transportation of an Elgin Local Schools special education student to a common site was approved. The board also agreed to the incorporation of a health education unit, as developed by pastors in the school district, for eighth grade students. The unit will be offered in addition to other health education instruction. The Pleasant Board of Education has approved a request to enlarge the Don Kay Fieldhouse. Members of the Pleasant Athletic Boosters Club reported to the board their intent to enlarge the fieldhouse by an additional 40 feet by 40 feet.

The club will finance the projects. In other business at Tuesday's regular session, members approved the 1984-1985 school year calendar. The first day of classes is a half-day session Aug. 27, and the first full day is Aug. 28.

Last day of classes is May 31. School will dismiss early Dec. 19 for Christmas 1 vacation, with classes resuming Jan. 3. The board also established new school day hours for students in grades 5-12.

Students in fifth grade will begin classes at 8:30 a.m. and dismiss at 2:35 p.m. Pupils in grades 6-12 will begin school at 7:45 a.m. and dismiss at Hours for students in grades K-4 will continue to be 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Hours for teachers of grades K-5 will be 8 a.m. to 3: 15 p.m. and teachers of grades 6-12, 7:30 a.m. to 2 :45 p.m. Superintendent Jon Kiger said there will continue to be two morning bus routes, but only one afternoon route.

Hie elimination of about five afternoon routes should "save miles, gasoline and wear and tear." Participation next school year in federal title programs was approved. Those programs are Title VI-B for special education; Chapter II for library; and Disadvantaged Pupil Project Fund for the educationally disadvantaged in reading and mathematics. Participation in services offered through the Special Educational Regional Resource Center in Galion was approved as was a request to advertise for bids, during next school year, for a new school bus. Extended duty supplemental contracts for next school year were awarded to nine staff members. Two noncertified employees were offered continuing contracts, and two-year limited contracts were awarded to three employees.

In addition, through a separate motion, a two-year limited contract was offered a noncertified staff member. In addition, the board offered a one-year limited contract, on a as needed basis, to eight noncertified employees. Following the recommendation of Superintendent Kiger, members issued a resolution of commendation to PHS Principal Bob Dendinger, Assistant Principal Lou Himmer; Dave Camp, PHS guidance counselor; and a number of committee members and school district residents for initiation of the Pleasant Academic Boosters. During Wednesday's session, the board, by a 3-2 vote, denied a request by Jerry Newell, president of the Pleasant Association of Teachers, to tape record the session. A special board meeting was established for 8 p.m.

April 30, in the central administration office, to convene into executive session with administrative personnel and management team members. Also, the citizens advisory committee will be discussed. Contract negotiations sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday and 4 p.m. May 8 and 17.

All are to be conducted at the high school. Larry Wilcox, Pleasant Junior High School principal, was offered a two-year limited administrative contract with assignment to be determined later. A five-year limited contract was awarded to John Holsinger, Pleasant High School band director. Members also awarded three four-year limited teaching contracts, two three-year limited teaching contracts four two-year limited teaching contracts; -and four one-year limited teaching contracts. Teaching contracts of five individuals were not renewed.
