Browns Are Victims of 55-7 Packer Explosion Green Bay Scores 35 in First Period By BOB GREEN Associated Press Sports Writer Green Bay rookie Travis Williams couldn't believe it. Cleveland Coach Blanton Collier didn't want to. And, as usual, Packer Coach Vince Lombardi had last word. "That's been our history. The Packers always rise to the occasion," said Lombardi Packers, led by Williams' record-tying heroics, Cleveland 55-7 Sunday.

"When we've had an injury," Lombardi added, "we always play a little better." The Packers had the injuries -starting running backs Jim Grabowski and Elijah Pitts are out--and they certainly played well, running up a 35-7 first-period margin and romping in from there. Retain Top Spot The victory, spiced by Williams' record-matching two kickoff returns for touchdowns, kept the defending champion Packers atop the National Football League's Central Division. Baltimore remained unbeaten and on top of the Coastal Division with a 49-7 romp, over Atlanta, with Johnny Unitas providing, a the Colts spectacular showing passing no letdown after the previous week's important victory over Green Bay. Dallas moved three games in front in the Capitol Division standings after a 27-10 decision over New Orleans, while St. Louis maintained a precarious hold on the Century Division lead with a 14-14 tie with Pittsburgh.

Chicago humbled New York 34-7, Minnesota and Detroit battled 10-10 tie, Los Angeles whipped Philadelphia 33-17 and Washington clipped San Francisco 31-28 in the other NFL games. Burst Sets Record "I couldn't believe it was happening, Williams said after returning kickoffs for touchdowns on runs of 87 and 85 yards for the Packers. His feat matched the league record of two kickoff returns for touchdowns set last year by Philadelphia's Timmy Brown. And the 35 points run up by the Packers in the first period set a league record. (UPI Telephoto) Wanted To Win Browns Too Tight, Collier Says After Worst Defeat By KEN HARTNETT Associated Press Sports Writer MILWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) Non-stop Travis Williams has rushed to the rescue of the ailing Green Bay Packers and now the Cleveland Browns are suffering from a severe case of wounded pride. Williams, the Packers' firstclass traveling man, made the Browns somewhat sorry they ever got off their bus Sunday returned kickoffs 87 and 85 yards for first period touchdowns. The Packers added three more touchdowns in the same period and went on to hand the Browns the worst defeat in their history, 55-7.

"I couldn't believe it was happening," said the 21-year-old rookie from Arizona State after triggering a record National Football League first period scoring spree 35 points. Neither could the Browns, who played as if thunderstruck after Williams' first ramble on the opening kickoff. "I don't know what happened," said Browns Coach Collier. "I saw him run against St. Louis two weeks ago.

I knew what he could do. We all knew what he could do." Williams helped beat the dinals in that game with an 83- yard kickoff return. He now has three touchdowns on only six returns and already shares the NFL season record. His two touchdowns Sunday also tied a single game record set last season by Timmy Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles. "It's a question of said Coach Vince Lombardi of the rookie prize he warned the football world about during training camp.

"He hits the hole so darn quick." Williams was not the only factor in Cleveland's undoing. Donny Anderson, the bonus baby making his first NFL ALL STAR WRESTLING NOV. 15th, 8:30 P.M. MARION FAIRGROUNDS MAIN EVENT FLYING FRED CURRY vs. THE KENTUCKY BUTCHER 1st.
