Robert Brownson Dies at Age 52 ASHLAND Robert W. Brownson, 52, former Ohio Coach of the Year in school and college football, high died Friday at the Cleveland Clinic following a long illness. Brownson of Ashland, RD 3, retired as athletic director at Ashland College in 1971 after molding one of the nation's outstanding college division athletic programs. The Ashland College graduate of 1947. and former Eagle athlete became the most successful football coach in Ashland history be- ROBERT BROWNSON fore he retired from the sidelines with a four-year mark of 21-10-1 in 1958.

He took over a sagging Eagle football program which went 1-7 in the year before he came on the scene. The next year, 1954, he guided Ashland to a 7-0 record. That team, known as the "Hungry Hounds," is one of the most respected teams in Ashland history. The 1954 season earned Brownson the Ohio College Coach of the Year award, giving him a "grand slam" in Ohio coaching. He also won high school Class A Coach of the Year in 1948 with New London High School on the basis of a 10-0 record.

Then, in 1953, Brownson coached Portsmouth High School to a perfect 10-0 standard. Brownson was a star athlete at Ashland High School, While a student at Ashland College, he took the basketball coaching position at Jeromesville High School and turned out a 22-2 team in 1946-47, which was his finest season as a basketball coach. Mr. Brownson attended the Assembly of God Church in Ashland and was a member of the Ashland Masonic Blue Lodge AM. He is survived by his wife, Louise; three daughters, Mrs.

Larry (Ann) Keiffer of Sunvale, Mrs. Richard (Ruth) McFrederick of Lucas and Miss Mollie Brownson of Mansfield; two sons, Robert E. and Frank both of Ashland; five grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brownson of Ashland; two sisters, Mrs.

Delbert Smith of Wellington and Mrs. Roy Spicer of Ashland and two brothers, Walter of Ashland and James of Engadine, Mich. Private family services will be held Sunday a afternoon. Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ashland College Chapel by the Rev.

Norman Lance. There will be no calling hours. The family requests donations be made to the Robert Brownson Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund at Ashland College. Floyd Scott JEROMESVILLE Floyd L. Scott, 74, of Farwell, formerly of the Ashland County area, died in Starbuck Hospital, Starbuck, Friday morning.

He was born in Ashland County. He is survived by two sons, Arlin J. of Crestline and Paul G. of Mansfield; four grandchildren. Services will be held at the Fickes Funeral Home Monday at 2 p.m.

Shifley, 82, Stricken in Galion GALION C. Alvah Shifley, 82, of State Route 19, former Polk Township Trustee for 29 years, died today in Galion Community Hospital after a four-year illness. He was born in New Winchester and he was a retired carpenter and farmer. Also, he was a Galion school bus driver for nine years. Mr.

Shifley was a member of the First United Church of Christ and he held several offices in the church, including being the consistory for 13 years. He was a 1912 graduate of Bucyrus High School. Surviving are his wife, Edith; five sons, Robert, Richard, Herbert, Donald and Wilburt, all of Galion; two daughters, Mrs. Dean (Marie) Bilsing of Galion and Mrs. Kenneth (Luella) Ernst of Shelby; 29 grandchildren; five greatchildren; a brother, Harold of New Winchester; four sisters, Mrs.

Chester Tupps of Watkins, Mrs. Clarence. Althouse of Crestline, Mrs. Reuben Steinhilber and Mrs. Foster Roesch, both of Galion.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Snyder and Kubach funeral home by Rev. Donald Voelm. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be after 2 p.m.

Sunday and Monday afternoon and evening. Donations may be made to the memorial endowment fund of his church. Leo Bookmyer SHELBY Leo Joseph Bookmyer, 80, of 61 Parkwood suffered a fatal heart attack and was dead on arrival at Shelby Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon. Born in Clyde, he had been a Shelby resident for 49 years. Mr.

Bookmyer had been vice president of the Carton Service Inc. of Shelby, retiring seven years ago. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, Holy Name Society, a past commander of O'Brien Post of the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War I and had served overseas with the 37th Rainbow Division. Police said a car driven by Joseph Peters, 22, of Fredericktown, ran into the rear of a stopped car driven by Robert Hoke, 75, of Crestline.

The Hoke car was then shoved into the rear of a car driven by Summers, police said. Peters was cited for failure to stop within an assured clear distance. Mrs. Hauserman Stricken Mrs. Pauline Kempton Hauserman, 65, of 10 Blymyer the widow of Paul I.

Hauserman, died Friday evening in Mansfield General Hospital following a one-month illness. She was born Aug. 27, 1910 in Jackson, and had lived here most of her life. Mrs. Hauserman was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Conversational Club, Handy Helpers of the the Advisory Board of the Visiting Nurses Assn.

James Seymour, 104 Sherbrook Mansfield 44907. Mrs. Longsdorf Mrs. Edith M. Thierlein Longsdorf, 80, of 255 Rowland wife of Edward Longsdorf, died at home Friday following an extended illness.

She was born May 18, 1895 in Perrysville and had lived here most of her life. Mrs. Longsdorf was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving, besides her husband, are one daughter, Mrs. Alex (Dorothy) Sayers of 941 Ramsey one step-son, James Longsdorf of Lexington; one step-daughter, Mrs.

Eleanor Oswalt of Mansfield: five grandchildren; two-great grandsons; one brother, Kenneth Darling of Mansfield; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Jones, Mrs. Hazel Shoup, Mrs. Erma Fry and Mrs. Cecelia Brokaw, all of Mansfield.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, conducted by her pastor the Rev. Stanley E. Mugridge. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park, Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday afternoon and evening.

Paul Cosentino Paul Cosentino, 85, of 692 Satinwood was dead on arrival Friday evening at Mansfield General Hospital after becoming ill at his home. Born in Castiglione, Di Sicily, Italy, Dec. 8, 1889, he came to this country in 1903 and to Mansfield in 1920 and was a retired employe of Empire-Detroit Steel. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carmella Carciopolo Cosentino; one son, Joseph of Mansfield; one daughter, Mary at home; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Phillip (Rose) Cedar of Parma. Friends may call at the Geiger-Herlihy Funeral Home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered at St.

524-7686 Saturday, October 18, 1975 News Two persons were listed in fair condition in Mansfield General Hospital's surgical intensive care unit this morning following accidents yesterday afternoon. Listed in fair condition with injuries received in accidents were Carolyn Kirgis, 20, of 1676 Millsboro and Samuel Boyd, 25, of 479 Boals Ave. Police said the Kirgis woman drove her car into a tree in front of 511 Marion Ave. at 5:40 p.m. yesterday.

She was admitted with a concussion and a back injury. Boyd lost control of his car on U.S. Route 42 near Ford Rd. about 5:30 p.m. yesterday and struck a guardrail, according to the highway patrol.

He was taken to the hospital and admitted with multiple scalp cuts. Four persons were also treated and released yesterday at General Hospital following four other traffic mishaps. Robert Ray, 36, of 628 Johns was treated for a cut nose and scrapes following a two-car accident at Springmill St. and Woodland Ave. about 1:40 a.m.

today. Police said Ray was stopped on Springmill St. waiting to make a left turn onto Woodland Ave. when his car was struck head-on by a car driven by Johnny Craft, 22, of 93 Franklin Ave. Police cited Craft for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Frances Trease, 62, of 65 Bahl was treated for a cut lip shortly after 7 p.m. yesterday when the car she was driving collided with a car driven by Robert 43, of 602 Impala Dr. Sheriff's deputies said the accident took place on State Route 430 near Ford. Rd. Deputies said Wendland was westbound of Rt.

430 and collided with the Trease auto which was eastbound on Rt. 430. Both cars were attempting to avoid a disabled car and a sheriff's cruiser that were parked along the roadway when the accident took place, deputies said. No citation was issued. Deputies said a German shepherd watchdog was discovered shot at the tire store yesterday after a burglary. Three dollars in pennies were taken in the burglary.

A money bag containing $428 was taken in a robbery of the and Carry Out at 1:45 p.m. yesterday. Deputies were given the name of a suspect. who is also being sought for the beating and rape of a 16-year-old girl earlier this week. Meanwhile, Mansfield police are investigating breakins at the Burger Chef, 228 Lexington and at Yuncker's Sporting Goods, 155 Cline Ave.

A calculator was taken from the restaurant and the sporting goods store lost $372 in cash and $147 in other items. Doors were discovered pried open at both businesses yesterday morning. Sunday, R.D. Zeiters SHELBY Raymon D. Zeiters, 51, of Westerville, former Shelby resident, died today in Grant Hospital, Columbus, after a long illness. He was born in Shelby and spent most of his life in the area. He moved to Pennsylvania when the Air Force Depot was phased out.

He later transferred to the Columbus Air Force Depot. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Westerville, the Westerville American Legion post. He was a graduate of Shelby High School and he attended Ohio State University. He was a World War II veteran. Surviving are his wife, Beverly; two sons, Eric and Karl, both of Columbus; a daughter, Mrs.

Karen Dickson of Galion; a grandson; his mother, Mrs. Edith Zeiters of Shelby; a brother, Dirk of Cincinnati; a sister, Mrs. W.S. Bulkley of Columbus. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Barkdull Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the funeral home. Ramey Services SHELBY Services for Mrs. G. Marie Ramey, 61, of 48 Jefferson who died Friday morning, will be held at 2. p.m.
