Dingley Pugh sold $400.00 worth of diamonds Wednesday. They had a special salesman here with a sample line. The seats for the Columbia Opera will be placed on sale Monday morning at 9 o'clock at Dingley's. Prices 35, 50, and 75 cents. A free silver republican of this town has made a wager of a new hat, with a democrat, that Boies will be the democratic nominee for President.

The manager of the opera house at Marshalltown wires Mr. Blossom that the Columbia Opera gave the best show that Marshalltown ever had. John Albright was married at Rolfe Tuesday of last week to.a young lady of that place by the name of Miss Sina Thorsen. This will be good news to John's many friends hereabouts. A Kentucky man recently went crazy because he couldn't pay his debts.

He must have been very lightheaded, anyway, or he would have let the other fellows do all the worrying. It is expected that Bancroft and Burt will send large delegations to the opera next Friday evening. The train service is such that those coming from the north can get here a few minutes before the show and return on the. regular train at 10:40. The citizens of Fort Dodge have erected a dam across the Des Moines river, creating an excellent boating course.

A small steamer has been put on and the first trip it made there were many aboard. They propose to make a little summer resort of their own. There is $75 left of last year's Fourth of July fund. That money ought not to lie idle. It should be in circulation.

Let someone call a Fourth of July meeting and let us the fire crackers a chance again this D. M. All right, turn on your steam Harvey. H. B.

Hallock and Geo. E. Marble of Burt were down Wednesday evening as representatives of the Burt A. O. U.

W. lodge, to confer with the Algona lodge in the matter of their annual field day exercises. The exercises will at the fair grounds some time 'labout the middle of June. He fell with such force to the ground that he has been laid up since at his home In Humboldt, unable to leave the house. The Fort Dodge Messenger says that It is understood to be the present purpose of Hon. J. F. Duncombe to sail next month for Europe where his wjfe and daughters have been for the past year.

He will wash his hands of democratic politics for this year. Mr. Duncombe 5s in general good usalth, but is lame as the result of his accident last fall, and will take a year's rest from business. The Kraft Clothing Co. advertise another special suit sale for Saturday, May 23.

They quote prices than break all previous records. The young and the old can get new and stylish made clothing at this special sale for less money than some dealers buy them at wholesale. Rev, J. AY, Innes was ordained and installed as minister of the Presbyterian church at this place last Mon day evening. The Kirkhart show will exhibit in Algona, Monday, June 1. It is larger and better this season than ever before. S. D. Drake went to Bancroft Wednesday to put in a few clays writing insurance.

Sam represents a good company, and is hustling lots of business. A recent interesting social event in Forest City was the marriage of a couple, each of whom was 57 years old. It was the third marriage for the groom and the fourth for the bride. Eagle Grove's electric light plant is a big success. Another new building 40 80 feet is to be built to be used as a power house.

The capacity of the plant is to be enlarged to 3,000 lights of 32 candle power. Esthervillemustbean awful wicked place. The Evangelist Williams was there last winter for a month or longer, and now G. W. Elliot, a South Dakota Evangelist, has started another revival there.

John iGoeders advertises a special sale of ladies' and misses' waists. His line is large and is made up of all the latest patterns. J. W. Robinson, the old reliable hardware man, has a new "ad" in this paper.

Look it up. Our old favorites, the Origina! Tennesseean Jubilee Singers wil favor us with a return date Monday, June 1st, at Congregational church under the auspices of Epworth League and Christian Endeavor societies. Rev. Stevens, the Baptist minister who was transferred from this place to Rochester, was married last week to Miss Waiters, at her home at Columbia, Mo. Both are well known here and their friends wish them much joy.

L. 0. Taylor, E. Van Note. The ladies of the Relief Corps will have their sales day at Mr.

Taylor's store Monday. The ladies are anxious to meet all their friends upon this day. The proceeds derived from this sale are to be used by the ladies of the Corps in the sewing school for little girls. The Emmetsburg Reporter says: We are informed that Link Singleton, Algona's esteemed colored citizen, is busily engaged putting up a neat little cottage in Algona. We wonder if Link's visits to Emmetsburg has anything to do with the matter? J.

S. Crawford, editor the Cherokee Herald, has just received a diploma and medal, awarded him by the World's Columbian exposition for the finest county exhibit of corn. Mr. Crawford had fifty-four different varieties in the exhibit, all of which was the product of Cass county, Atlantic being the home of Mr. Crawford at the time.

The citizens of Elraore voted this spring have saloons. They have three now running in full blast, and it is said that they are doing a big business. We are told by a gentleman who lives in this county near the state line, that a great many kegs are brought over into Kossutb. He has seen as high as five and sjx kegs in on wagon, Some people will drink beei just so long as it is made, Strange isn't it? Or. W.

Daniels of Corwith was ove Jast Friday. He left orders here for number of copies of the pamphle "Capture and Escape" by Gen. KeJlogg and Col, B. H. Spencer, Mr.

Fitz, the Germania Banker was down on business Monday. D. R. Growl of Burt has disposed of his business for a farm in Clay county. J.

G. Smith is at Blairsburg on business connected with the Patterson estate. The annual Burt picnic comes June 6. The Algona band has been invited to furnish the music. D.

F. Sullivan is back here again after a very pleasant two weeks visit at Estherville and Rock Rapids. Geo. J. Adam's son, John, who is at Genoa, Nebraska, was married to a young lady of that place Monday.

President E. G. Bowyer is at Des Moines this week attending the meeting of the State Jewelers Association. Mrs. Thos.

F. Cooke and her mother left for Chicago Monday. Mrs. Cooke will visit in Wisconsin-and her mother goes to Maine. Our school board will let the contract for the building of the new school house June 12.

See notice in this paper. We are to have open air concerts each Saturday evening by the band on the court house lawn. Algona has the best band this year that she eyer had. Miss Kate Smith and her music will give a concert at Burt. Miss Smith is a musician of ability, and the concert that she will give will be a good one.

Algona has a prophet. He prophe- ies that the delegates to the Democratic convention at Dubuque will be 16 to 1 is. they will take 16 beers to 1 whiskey. Miss Barbara Schmit, the daughter of a widow living in Plum Creek, died Sunday night. She was buried at St.

Joe. Her death was clue to ex- opthalmia goitre. George Noble of West Union, a young man of 14 years experience in the busines has signed with Mr. Taylor, and will fill Mr. Misbach place.

He will be Monday. Peter Winkle has started 'his ice wagons for the season. It is a well known fact that Peter always has the best ice and, delivers it to his customers in the most satisfactory manner. There is to be another big wedding in Prairie next Tuesday. Mr.

Jo. Mathies will be wedded to Miss Katie Andorfer. They are two of the best young people to be found in that part of the county. It is the COURIEK'S turn to rejoice now, inasmuch as our foreman, Mr. R.

T. Ramsey, is the proud father of a 11 pound boy: The youngster put in his appearance Thursday morning. The mother and child are doing well. Will Salsbury has signed with the Austin, base ball team as pitcher for this season. Austin has a good team.

He pitched for them in a game Tuesday against the crack team of Mankato, and won the game by a score of 9 to 4. The Milwaukee road will run a sleep! ng car from Sanborn to Dubuque, May 19, to accomodate delegates to the convention. The car will be put out at Dubuque, and the occupants will have the use of it until 7:30 the next morning. Rev. Phil.

Hanna, who does labor in the vineyard for the Lord, occasionally finds some spare time to devote to his 400 acre farm near West Bend. He was over there last week purchasing supplies and superintending some improvements. The Schu Waterhouse cigar factory received a small bale of Havana tobacco this week the cost of which was over $600.00. The tariff duty was per pound. Their leading cigar, the game, is having an immense sale.

Over 6,000 were sold in Algona last week. Taylor is making a special sale of ladies and misses capes and suits, and all kinds of summer wash goods. He is doing a larger business this season than ever before. He has to have his store room enlarged to meet the demands of his increasing trade. Don't fail to read his advertisement.

The Elclora school board has made a new ruling abolishing the high school graduating exercises, Hereafter it will only bo necessary for graduates to prepare and hand in a written essay of 300 words in order to obtain a diploma. The ruling is well received by the parents of the scholars. Would it not be a good thing to se cure a date In Algona for Father Oleary, President of the Catholic Total Astinance Union of America? He is to speak at Garner, June 1. A. Matthews came over from Spencer Saturday fora visit over Sunday. He is doing a nice business. Mr. Charles Stolte came all the way from Elmore, Wednesday to attend the county convention.

He is determined that the democracy of the north end must be represented. James O'Rourke of West Bend has the honor of showing the first new potatoes of the season of '96. He raised them in a box and the editor of the says that they were nice ones. The new Baptist church at Mason was dedicated Sunday. The church is of pressed brick with stone trimmings, English Gothic style, and cost $18,000.

Its seating capacity is 800. The interior is handsomely decorated. It was dedicated free of debt. The big flouring mills of the country have all combined and the price of all foreign flour has gone up about 10 cents a sack. You can avoid this iqueeze by patronizing our home mills.

Graham, superintendent of the Western Electric Telephone company, who has worked up a big substantial interest in his line in this cit3 has returned to complete arrangements to extend his company's wires to the Queen Falls Forum. One of the worst affronts to the horse which has been recorded was perpetrated in Mason City.

A man proceeded up the main street last week riding his bicycle and leading horse. Who can tell the feelings that were in the equine breast at this indignity! During the thunder storm Sunday evening, the residence of Ed. Dolan, of Wesley, was struck by lightning, which demolished the chimney and did some other damage. The footboard was torn from one of the beds in which a little child was sleeping, but the little one was not injured.
