of of of of of of of of of Saturday, February 21, In February Comes Story Of Christmas The story of a Christmas party in Tokyo at which Beverly Thearl, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wirick of Lexington was the hostess, was received today from Japan, where Beverly and her parents, Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Harold Thearl, are stationed The party for Beverly and her 23 playmates was held at the Thearl home at Momoto Village, Camp Drake, about 20 miles out of Tokyo.

Beverly and her er, the former Helen Wirick, landed in Japan on Aug. 10, last year. The Thearls had been living in Austin, before gOing overseas. The Christmas party was featured by a six and a half-foot tree, 140 popcorn and other delicacies, including 24 by 15-inch balls, cake baked by Cpl. Bill Blankenhorn.

Merry Christmas was inscribed on the cake icing. Besides Beverly's party, the Red Cross gave American children from one to 18 years, at which Santa distributed gifts. Beverly is a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wirick of Bellville.

Bonus Bond Bids Due March 16 Two Syndicates Will Compete COLUMBUS -(P)- Bids on a $200,000,000 issue of bonds to finance Ohio's soldier bonus will be received at the office of Gov. Thomas J. Herbert March 16, the state sinking fund commission has announced. The bonds, maturing April 15 annually, will be in $1,000 denominations. The first group maturing Oct.

15, 1948, will total 750,000. The interest rate will be submitted by bidders. Two syndicates have been formed to bid on the bonds. One is headed by the National City bank and Chase National bank of New York, the other by Bankers' Trust company of New York and Halsey-Stuart company of Chicago. Seventy-five millions additional can be issued and sold if needed to finance the bonus.

State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson, only elected Democrat in the state house, renewed his protest at the meeting of the commission yesterday against the law firm of Republican U. S. Sen. John W.

Bricker having any part in the issuing procedure. The commission, in its meeting, took no acon his tion, legality protesthe bids and arrangements bidders must be approved by the Chicago law firm of Chapman and Cutier, and latter has delegated some of the work to the Bricker firm here. The Bricker firm includes William S. Evatt, who was state tax commissioner when the senator was Governor. Ferguson said the sinking fund commission should pay the Chicago attorneys direct for their services, rather than let the winning syndicate pay them, and eliminate the Bricker firm altogether.

McPherson Street Resident Dies Woodrow W. Martin, 35 died late Friday at his home, 481 McPherson street, after a protracted illness. He had spent his entire life in Mansfield. Surviving are two sons, Woodrow jr. and Fred; one daughter, Edyth; his father, Frank J.

Martin. and one brother, William K. Martin, all of Mansfield. Friends may call at the Wappner Funeral home where services will be conducted at 1 p. m.

School Board Asks Fund Transfer OK The board of education of Shiloh yesterday filed in common pleas court a petition requesting authority to transfer $721 from a bond retirement fund to the school district's general fund. Board members said that amount still exists in the bond revoted in 1922 and all obtirement fund although, bonds, ligations concerned with the bonds have been paid. The band and orchestra are practicing for the spring, concert to be presented Appleseed auditorium. Winners in the American Legion essay contest were presented with their prizes at the assembly Wednesday. First prize of $5 went to Millard Pryor, second prize of $3 to Jack Pierce and third prize of $1 to Frederick Pryor. The subject of the essay was "How the United Nations Can Become More Effective."
