Mrs Philip Shivell Mrs Lyle Smith Mrs Preston Taylor Mrs A Thaxton Mrs Marshall Volberg Mrs William Walters Mrs Howard Wilson and Mrs John Wimberly FOR A WEDDING TRIP the bride wore an almond green silk suit and brown reptile accessories The bride was graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and received her A degree in English from Wellesley College At Wellesley she was managing editor of the news-' paper She is also a graduate of the Radcliffe College Publishing Procedures Course The bridegroom was graduated from Cornell University where he was president of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity He attended the Graduate School of Business Administration at Cornell and is currently with the advertising agency of Young and Rubicam Inc in New York i PRIOR TO THE wedding Mrs Hamilton Mrs John Harrison Jr Mrs Johnson Mrs George Moss Mrs Joseph Platt Mrs Reynolds Mrs Philip Shivell and Mrs Preston Taylor gave a coffee for the bride at Mrs Harrisons home in Ridgefields Mrs Robert Bruce gave a tea at her home in Fairacres A luncheon at Ridgefields Country Club was held by Mrs Frank O'Connell and Mrs Lyle Smith Mrs Clemmer and Mrs Wallace Hufford gave a luncheon at Ridgefields Country Club in honor of the bride A coffee was held at Ridgefields Country Club by Mrs Bandy Mrs Fred Johnson and Mrs William Mills Dr and Mrs John Powers Mr and Mrs John Reed Jr Mr and Mrs William Todd and Mr and Mrs Marshall Volberg gave a cocktail buffet and swimming party at the Todd home THE THAXTON HOME in Abingdon was the scene of a cocktail buffet given by Mr and Mrs Lionel Hutton Mrs George Penn Miss Estelle Penn Mr and Mrs A Thaxton and Miss Lyn Thaxton Dr and Mrs William Harrison Mr and Mrs Jenkins Mr and Mrs Hall Morrison and Mr and Mrs John Wimberly hosted a swimming party and picnic at the Harrison cabin on Patrick Henry Lake THE REHEARSAL dinner was given in the Ridgefields Country Club lounge by Mrs Reed An open house was held following the rehearsal dinner at the home of Mrs Price by Mrs Price and Mr and Mrs John Kirton Mr and Mrs Philip Farnham gave the wedding breakfast at their home A buffet supper for the wedding party and out-of-town guests was given by Dr and Mrs Brown Dr and Mrs Christensen and Dr and Mrs Jones at the Christensen home Miss Elisabeth Greene Reed became the bride of Richard Philip Alther yesterday at 8 pm The ceremony was performed by Rev Douglas Berndt at St Pauls Episcopal Church The bride is the daughter of Dr and Mrs John Shelton Reed of Kingsport The bridegroom is the son of Mr and Mrs Robert Charles Alther of Ridgewood 1 A program of organ music was presented prior to the ceremony by Miss Daphne McCord of Bristol CHURCH DECORATIONS consisted of seven-branched candelabra entwined with magnolia foliage Altar vases held spec ios urn lilies The bride given in marriage by her father wore an ivory peau-de-soie gown with bodice and front panel of Brussels lace The gown was previously worn in other family weddings A Juliet cap of Brussels lace held an illusion veil and she carried a bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley MRS JOHN REED JR served her sister-in-law as matron of honor Other attendants were Mrs Cornelius Apffel Miss Susan Farnham Miss Martha Harrison and Miss Portia Morrison all of Kingsport Miss Sara Linda Foose of Westfield NJ and Miss Karen Reemer of Oakdale Miss Jane Reed sister of the bride was junior bridesmaid The attendants wore floor-length gowns of coral chiffon with rust velvet ribbon outlining empire waists They carried rust chrysanthemums Robert Charles Alther brother of the bridegroom served as best man GROOMSMEN WERE John Reed Jr Michael Reed and William Reed II brothers of the bride Robert Carney New York James Mrazek Huntington NY and Frank Quirk Massapequa A reception immediately following the ceremony was given by the brides parents at their home 1334 Watauga St Assisting in serving at the reception were Mrs Edmund Alley Mrs Bandy Mrs Brown Mrs Robert Bruce Mrs Christensen Mrs Clemmer Mrs Philip Farnham Mrs Harrison Jr Mrs William Harrison Mrs Lionel Hutton Mrs Jenkins Mrs Fred Johnson Mrs Jones Mrs John Kirton Mrs William Mills Mrs Hall Morrison Mrs Frank OConnell Mrs George Penn Miss Estelle Penn Mrs Joseph Platt Mrs John Powers Jr Mrs Dorothy Price Mrs Price Dianne Addington Is Mrs Allen Come See What's New Beautiful for Fall Winter in Ladies' Fashions Perfect for Back-To-School See Our Selection Of Popular Hip-Hugger SKIRTS Also Sweaters and Slacks Mix and Match 'em!
