O. 5 Saturday, July 31, 1971 Man Wounded by Police Dies Roger Grove Dies After Long Illness wL mm: -PC1 JL mmmmimmsmmms Sammy Lee Brown, 31, of 186 Buckingham St. who was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with Mansfield police during an alleged armed robbery at King Garden Apartments, 690 King on May 1, died Thursday at 11:20 p. m.

He had been in the intensive care unit of General Hospital since the incident. An autopsy is to be performed to determine if death was due to the gunshot wound in the abdomen or caused by other factors. Brown was shot by one of two policemen who walked into the apartment office while a robbery reportedly was in progress. One of the policemen reportedly drew his pistol and fired when he saw Brown standing with a gun pointed at the apartment manager Jack D. Middlebrook.

Another man was injured in the alleged robbery but was never located by police. The policemen had been assigned to the apartment building on rent collection day following a series of armed robberies in the city. Born in Sunshine, Marijuana, She was born July 24, 1893, in Monroe County, and had lived here since 1950. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Alvin Dotta of Monroe County and Mrs.

Phillip Maglott with whom she made her home; two brothers, Carl and Herbert of Monroe County; and one niece and one nephew. The body is at the Wapp-ner Funeral home where funeral arrangements are incomplete. Mrs. Mason Mrs. Violet Bell Mason, 49, of 816 Ferndale widow of James Mason, died Friday in Mansfield General Hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Mason was born in Virginia and moved to Mansfield several years ago. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ray Deal in West Virginia, Mrs.

Eugene Deal and Mrs. Charles Deal, both of Mansfield; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Thornton in West Virginia; three brother, Boyd Thornton and Ivan Thornton, both of Bellville, and James Thornton of Mifflin; four sisters, Mrs. Ralph Jones, Mrs.

Earl Holsen, Mrs. Riley Heater and Mrs. Charles Jones, all of Mansfield; and five grandchildren. Services will be held Monday at Gatens Funeral Home in Poca, W. Va.

Burial will be in West Virginia. Funeral arrangements arc in charge of J. H. Fine-frock Sons. The Rev.

Gerald Cera-nowski of St. Mary's Catholic Church, will officiate at the prayer service. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday. The rosary will be recited there at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Born in Mansfield Feb. 12, 1962, Diana had attended St. Mary's Grade School. She was in fourth grade. Surviving besides her mother are her grandmother, Mrs.

Richard Ilannan, 87 Ashland Rd. and great -grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sanderson, 120 Gibson and Mr. and Mrs.

Grove was born in Newark Oct. 19, 1911, and had lived here since 1947. He was an employe of the American Distillery Co. He served with the Medical Corps of the 37th Division in the South Pacific during World War II. Surviving are two brothers Arthur P.

of Newark and George of Detroit, three sisters, Mrs. Bertha F. McKinley, Ft. Lauderdale, Mrs. Harriett G.

Frazier and Mrs. Marjorie G. Keller, both of Newark; and his stepmother, Mrs. P. C.

Grove, of Newark. Funeral services will be conducted in the J. II. Finefrock Sons Funeral Home Monday at 11 a.m. by the Rev.

Clifton Storm, pastor of the Bethel Bible Church. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Friends may call in the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Miss Kaiser Miss Marie Kaiser, 74, of 136 Dale died this morning in Mansfield General Hospital after an extended illness.

Born in Mansfield March 18, 1897, she attended St. Peter's Parochial School and was a retired employe of the Ohio Brass Co. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Rosary Altar Society Council of Catholic Women and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She is survived by one brother, Joseph Kaiser of Bradenton, Fla, and one sister, Mrs.

Walter Killin-ger of Mansfield. Friends may call at the Geiger Herlihy Funeral Home starting at noon Sunday. Funeral high mass will be offered by Msgr. Edward C. Dunn at St.

Peter's Catholic Church Tuesday morning at 9:30. Burial will be in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home Monday evening at 7. Miss Ada Baiuli Miss Ada Bandi, 78, of 540 Harter Ave. died this morning in Mansfield General Hospital following an extended illness.

He left Los Angeles March 28 and expects to arrive in Washington Aug. 20. He has worn out four pairs of tennis shoes on his journey so far. (UPI Photo 2 Charged With Robbing Cab Driver knife point Tuesday afternoon by a thug on a bicycle. Police are continuing the investigation of that incident.

The Tuesday incidents make a total of 11 strong -arm type robberies reported so far this month. Foster St. to Waring Ave. and North Adams St. after they allegedly robbed a cab driver of $8 late Tuesday.

Police took the two into custody at the North Adams intersection. A 14- year- old ice cream boy was robbed at June 6, 1940, Mr. Brown had been a resident of Mansfield most of his life. Ilannan, nine, daughter of Mrs. Carol Grillo, 526 West Fourth St. 17 ne child, found unconscious in a swimming pool at a motel in Colorado Springs where the family had been vacationing, remained in a coma until her death Wednesday in Penrose Hospital in that city. Death was due to a respiratory failure. Destruction State Route 39 near Tiro on July 22.

After the arrest, Chief Crockett seized Mitchel's car and allegedly found marijuana in the vehicle. Mitchel was placed in the Crawford County Jail and released on July 27. S. mail boxes and private property have been filed in Crawford County Western District Court in Galion against Martin Mitchel, 22, of Shelby, RD 2, by Tiro.

Two Sentenced CINCINNATI (UPI) -Gerard Harvey, 22, and Clifford Davenport, 21, both of Cincinnati, were sen-t to indeterminate terms in the Ohio Reformatory for shooting at policemen who were trying to arrest them last September. Alice A. Carpenter, 63, of Willard, RD 2, died Friday at her home after a ten -month illness. Born in New Winchester, she had lived in the Willard area for the past 34 years. She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church, the WSCS, the Willard Grange and the Pa-mona Grange. She is survived by one son, Richard of Willard; two daughters, Mrs.

Lyle Dawson of Willard and Mrs. Carl Rendlan of North Fairfield; 14 grandchildren; one great- grandson; two brothers, Jason Cress of Bucyrus and Holis Cress of Galion and three sisters, Mrs. Dessie Bailey and Mrs. Roy Johnson both of Bucyrus and Mrs. Evelyn Weiland of New Winchester.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church, near Willard, with the Rev. Edward Styker officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, near Willard. Friends may call after 7 p.m.

Gerald R. Lewis has been appointed to the Main St. United Methodist Church as Minister of Education. He joins the Rev. Leland Wiley on the staff.

The Rev. Lewis is a graduate of Methodist Theological School at Delaware and Otterbein College. He was ordained at Lakeside in June. He served the Wil-liamsport United Methodist Church in Morrow County before accepting the call to Mansfield. The Lewis family, including a two year old son, are living at 200 Fairlawn Ave.
