Local Swim Association Elects Officers For '67 The Kingsport Swimming Association, the northernmost member of the Southeastern Amateur Athletic Union, which Includes all of Tennessee, Alabama and Florida, has elected its officers for 1967. Frank Dodsson will serve the group as president; P. T. Nottingham will be the new vice president; Mrs. Ralph Beiltz will serve as treasurer and Mrs.

David G. Peirce will be secretary. "Competition in the SEAAU is getting tougher every year," said Dodson. "However, our swimmers have proven to be strong competitors in the past years, and we are confident that they will be prepared this summer to meet the new times which are being turned in by swimmers throughout the area." The team will begin daily practice sessions when school ends in June. A limited number of swimmers are traveling to Johnson City on Saturday mornings for indoor workouts at Munsey Memorial Pool, but facilities there are inadequate to handle practice sessions involving 50 to 80 swimmers.

The Association has already been granted a swimming meet date for the '67 Kingsport AAU Invitational. This meet, hosted by the local team, will be held on Saturday, August 19, and AAU teams from across the state and out of state will be invited. Meet directors who will handle i i a i a organizational work in setting up the '67 Meet are Chris Gelsinger, Eugene Isaacs and Paul Lee. Kingsport swimmers who would like to join the team are urged to contact any of the officers or meet directors for further information. dual matches are set, with the likes of Kentucky, Louisville and Virginia Tech, in addition to Ohio Valley Conference and Tennessee Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meets. The new head tennis coach believes that "if you don't play the tough ones, you don't improve," and he obviously aims at having his Bucs ready when OVC tourney time rolls around in late May. Besides a i i a 1 opponents Carson-Newman and King colleges, the net Pirates will take on Ohio Wesleyan, Appalachian State, VP1, U-K, U-T, Louisville, Mars Hill College, and Eastern Kentucky before the May 19-20 conference playoff dates. Castle, who -doubles as freshman basketball coach, and was a star in both that sport and in tennis at Western Kentucky, will have two proven veterans around with which to build a strong 1967 squad. Back after winning marks posted last spring are junior David Smith of Oak Ridge, and sophomore Billy Pike of Elizabethton via ETSU's University High.

Pike is one of the Soulh's bright young tennis stars, and he and Smith will probably handle the Nos. 1 and 2 spots in Castle's lineup. The schedule: MARCH: 23-Ohio Wesleyan; 25 Appalachian State; 27 King College. APRIL: 4 at Virginia Tech; 8 Carson-Newman; -at Carson-Newman; 15 -Kentucky; 21 at Tennessee; 24 at King College; '27-28 TIAC Tournament at Sewanee, Tenn. MAY: 2 Virginia Tech; 4 at Eastern Kencutky; 5-at Louisville; 6 -r at Kentucky; 10 Mars Hill College; 19-20 Ohio Valley Conference tournament at Bowling Green, Ky.
