Losses were fairly general and ran from fractions to around 2 points among leaders. Plus signs were scattered and ineffectual in halting the fall. Despite flurries -of selling from time to time, volume came to an estimated 1,100,000 shares as compared with 1,170,000 shares traded Monday. Railroads were the most active and among harder hit groups. Steels, motors, and chemicals also showed some ac*ivity at lower prices. Lower stocks included Union Pacific, Atlantic Coast Line, Republic Steel, Chrysler, United Gas Corp., American Telephone, Montgomery Wai-d, Gulf Oil, Kern County Land, El Paso Natural Gas, Dow Chemical, Westinghouse Electric and Boeing.
