Three Lives Lost $26 Million Suit Is Filed A record $26,650,000 suit has been filed in Coshocton County Common Pleas Court as the result of a fiery explosion June 1, 1968, which claimed the lives of three people. The explosion and fire were natural gas pipeline in believed caused by a ruptured, along County Road 123 in Linton Township one mile long and 200 yards wide. The explosion apparently resulted when an attempt was made to start a motor vehicle stalled in the valley. Edward Brill of Guernsey Route Benjamin C. Lahna, of Coshocton Route Gerald Roahrig, of Coshocton Route and Frank and Norine Sprague, of Coshocton Route 2 have jointly named the following defendants: The Texas Transmission Corporation, Alleghany Pipeline Company, Trans Ohio Pipeline Company, Kennecott Copper Corporation, Peabody Coal Company, (Illinois and Delaware corporations), Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company, Simco Poling and Bacon Construction Company and Harford Brothers Inc.

The plaintiffs claim one or more of the defendants are liable by "negligently and unskillfully constructing, designing, installing, laying, and maintaining the pipeline." The suit also charges the defendants were "carelessly and negligently transmitting hydrocarbon products," coal mining operations near the pipeline," and "failed or refused to introduce into hydrocarbon products being transmitted through the pipeline a malodorant agent of such character and quality to warn the plaintiffs by distinct odor of of gas in the Brill, who owned the stalled auto, is asking $5 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages plus costs. Brill's wife, Edna Mae, died of burns she suffered from the explosion. Lahna, whose son Benjamin 24, died 26 days after the incident, is asking compensatory damages of $1 million and punitive damges of $5 million and costs. Roahrig, whose son Quentin died 24 hours after being severely burned, is asking $250,000 in compensatory damages and $5 million inpunitive damages. Mr. Sprague is seeking compensatory damages of $150,000 and punitive damages of $250,000. Courthouse News Councilman Files $50,000 Suit City Councilman Frederick Noll of 927 Laurel avenue Thursday filed a $50,000 defamation of character suit against J. Bertram Bigley of 627 Seborn avenue. The petition, filed in Common Pleas Court, alleges that Bigley, unsuccessful candidate for Democatic committeeman in the Fourth Ward at the May Primary, sent out letters to voters May 2 containing implications defamatory to Noll's character.

Noll was one of the four Democrats elected to council last November. The suit claims Bigley's letter inferred that Noll had cashed a check for $27.98 from the Democratic Party which represented part of unspent funds donated to the party for election expenses last fall. Noll's attorney, Robert McCarty, said the petition denies the implication and asks the $50,000 in damages. Bigley was defeated by Earl Dunn for the office of Democratic Central Committeeman in the Fourty Ward by a vote of 127 to 126. Delong and Baker FUNERAL HOME George W.
