(AP) Kevin McLee ran for 203 yards and set a school single-game rushing record as Georgia trounced Auburn 28-0 Saturday to win the Southeastern Conference football championship and a berth in the Sugar Bowl.

McLee, a 6-foot, 188-pound junior from Uniontown, who also scored one touchdown, had to hustle, however, to outdistance Georgia's fullback, Al Pollard, who piled up 158 yards and scored twice. The victory gave Vince Doo-ley's Georgia Bulldogs their first conference title since they won the championship in 1968, also bv defeating Auburn in the showdown game. Georgia completely overpowered Auburn but had help also from Tiger penalties. One Auburn setback, 15 yards for a personal foul, gave the Bulldogs a first down on the Tiger 32 and kept their second touchdown drive going. Auburn's only serious threat came in the third period when quarterback Phil Gargis got the Tigers down to Georgia's 12.

But Gargis fumbled and Jeff Sanders recovered for Georgia and halted the Auburn scoring threat. Georgia went into the game tied with Florida for first place in the SEC but won undisputed claim to the championship when the Gators lost to Kentucky 28-9. (AP) -Notre Dame continued Its mastery over Alabama Saturday as Rick Slager passed for 206 yards in the first half, including a 56 yard touchdown bomb to Dan Kelleher, and led the Irish to a 21-18 victory in the first regular-season meeting between two of college football's greatest names. Kentucky's other scoring came on a six-yard run by Chris Hill and a 29-yard scamper by Rod Stewart as the Wildcats lifted their record to 6-4 and 3-2 in the SEC, their second winning season In three years. Florida, which fell to 6-3 and 4-2, scored on Berj Yepr-emian's 42-yard field goal and a nine-yard pass from Jimmy Fisher to Tony Green.
