He was a retired farmer, Supervisor of District 1 Simpson County from 1948 to 1952 and was a county and community leader. Mrs. Carolyn Barnes Gillis Mrs. Carolyn Barnes Gillis, 71, of Mendenhall died Thursday, August 4, 1988 at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall. Mrs. Gillis was a member of Mendenhall United Methodist Church and was a retired homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Herbert D. Gillis in September, 1986.
