Joseph Schmatz I would address the inefficiencies in various government departments, by halting unnecessary expenditures such as new facilities that are not critical for needed services. We should freeze all county projects until they can be reviewed and scrutinized as to whether they are essential for the citizens of Manitowoc County. Andrew Schneider I believe most of the county departments are functioning very well and making very good use of tax dollars.

However, there are other departments that can better utilize tax dollars by implementing increased efficiencies and advanced technologies. With the use of energy-saving equipment, we can hold the line on our energy costs throughout the county. Manitowoc County should be attracting new businesses in order to increase economic development. Michael Thomas There are so many opportunities to re-think how we spend the limited money available to deliver services. I have been successful by applying a business model to my departments, managing both the amount that is spent and how it is spent For example, when the dedicated staff at the Health Care Center redesigned how they provided dietary services, they reduced costs by over $250,000 per year.

I will foster an environment in which all departments are encouraged to explore approaches to becoming more efficient while, at the same time, improving services. I will continue to work dilh gently to increase our share of state and federal aid, returning more of our tax dollars to our Joseph Knatzke Readfield; and Marsha Brennan, Manitowoc.
