6) at Allentown for Cleon D. Hastings, 68, who was killed Mar. 3 in a home workshop accident. Mr. Hastings was apparently grinding a "weld" In piping, when the 11-inch grinder wheel split, striking- him in the fuce.

The blow caused a skull fracture In addition to severe facial lacerations. Mr. Hastings lived at Honeoye a number of years and worked for the Potter Gas Company In Shinglehouse. He had also been employed as a foreman for the Messer Oil Olean, and in recent years was self-employed as a welder at Allentown. Survivors include his widow, Mrs.

Lucille Thompson Hastings, formerly of Shinglehouse; three sons: Lawrence Hastings, Webster, N.Y.; Leonard Hastings, Albion; and Lowell Hastings, Grand Rapids, a step-daughter, Mrs. Lillian O'Connor, Rochester, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. to 5:00 p.m. The Woman's Society for Christian Service will meet at the home of Mary Greenhill tonight (Wednesday) at 7:45. World Bank dues are due at this time. The Rebekah Lodge will meet on March 24 at 8:00 p.m. Firemen were called to the home of William Varney Wednesday.

An article of clothing too close to a heater was blamed. No damage was reported. Mrs. Marie Kauffeld entertained the Cookie Club Wednesday night. Mary Greenhill, Mary Convey and Mrs.

Kauffeld won the awards. Dewey Dexter and Mrs. Clro Legacy visited Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Dexter and family of Cani.steo, N.Y., one day last week.

Sunshine Circle Meets With Mrs. Carpenter The Sunshine Circle met with Mrs. E. L. Carpenter Thursday.

The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. June Croop on April 9. Communion And Maundy Thursday Services There will be Holy Communion on Maundy Thursday, Mar. 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Riverside Methodist Church for bath Fishing Creek and River side churches.

Easter Sunday sunrise service for both churches will be at Riverside Church at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast at 8:00, followed by regular services at each church. R. Wayne Richards, for a half century Shinglehouse family physician, was a shock to the community and county Thursday morning (March 12, 19(14). Dr. Richards was born Sept. 16, 1888, at Kasson, McKean County, a son of George and Cora War-fle Richards.

He was a graduate of Clarion Normal School and Jefferson Medical College, Philadcplhia. He served with the U.S. Army in World War as a Lieutenant In the Medical Corps. He was very active In civic affairs in the borough nnd in the county. He was a former burgess of Shinglehouse Borough, a member of Shinglehouse Methodist Church, of Sharon Lodge 598, F.

A.M., Coudersport Consistory, A.A.S.R.; Penna. Medical Association, past president and charter member of Potter County Motor Club, AAA; past president and 50-year member of American Red Cross, Oswayo Valley Memorial Library, past commander of Post 530, American Legion, Shinglehouse: Potter County Historical Society, vice president of Potter County TB and Heart Societies. He had been awarded the Silver Beaver and the Silver Elk awards the work. Surviving are a son, Robert Rioh- arcls, Los Angeles. a daueh- ter, Mrs.

Robert (Barbara) Davie. Olean; two step-sons, Leslie Gith ens, Fredericksburg, and Harry Githens, Fort Smith, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Patricia Githens Hibbard, Wakefield, 1 7 grandchildren: two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Beall, and Mrs. Olive Richards, both of Eartlesville, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held from the Howard Funeral Home Sunday, with the Rev. Roy Black of Friendship officiating. There had been a Masonic memorial service earlier as well as a military service. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery at Shinglehouse. Marine Takes Part In Simulated Warfare Marine Lance Corporal Maxwell W.

Moore son of Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell W. Moore of Shinglehouse, participated Feb. 29-Maroh 9 in a simulated desert warfare exercise called "Operation Winter Nigiht" at the Marine Corps Base, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

The exercise, a combined operation of the First Marine Division based at Camp Pendleton and the Third Marine Aircraft Wing at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, involved all types of Marine equipment and every phase of combat skill. Emphasis was placed on counter- guerrilla operations, helicopter team troop movements, and day and night air support. Philathea Class Meets At Dodd Home The Philathea Class of the Baptist Church met Friday with Mrs. Bessie Dodd. Each member answered roll call with a reading about Easter.

and Mrs. Harold Gross and daughter Sue and Miss Debbie Mooney of Olean were Sunday guests of Mrs. Laura Gross. Mr. and Mrs.

Ancil Crooks and family of Elmira and -Mr. and Mrs. Dean Crooks and family of Kittan-ning were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Crooks.

Mrs. Alice Holly is a surgical patient in the Olean General Hos pital. Mis. Vera Nichols is substituting for her in school. Mr.

and Mrs. C. D. VanDeBoe left recently for Washington, D.C., where they attended a convention. They went on to Daytona Beach, for a visit with Mi', and Ma's.

Bill Scott and family of Williamsport were recent guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Scott. Ben Madison had the misfortune to fall downstairs and break his wrist. After x-rays his arm was placed in a cast.

He will be unable to resume his work for six weeks. Ira Press, who underwent surgery recently at the Mountain Clinic, is still a patient there. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert MacGregor of Erie recently brought his sister, Lois home from the Olean General Hospital, where she had been a accident patient for three weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Fenner and Mi-, and Mrs.

Eldyn Fenner have returned home from Florida. Mrs. Leo Lauckern entertained friends March 7 in honor of her husband's birthday. The evening was spent playing cards and a lunch was served. HONEOYE Mrs.

E. L. Drake Reporter Mar. 13 The Sewing Club met at their rooms at East Sharon on Wednesday and enjoyed a tureen dinner. Quilting was the work of the day and cards were sent out.

We are sorry to hear of the death of Dr. Richards of Shinglehouse on Thursday morning, March 12. Also we regret to hear of the serious illness of Mrs. Nellie Warner who lived with her sister at; South Bolivar and is now a patient in the St. Francis Hospital in Olean.

She is an aunt of the Bixbys at Sharon Center. Mr. and Mrs. George Brabham of East Sharon are caring for a baby daughter, born Wednesday, Mar. 11, in the Olean General Hospital.

They have two boys. Last Wednesday callers of Mrs. Delia Beckwith were Virgil Stebbins of Shinglehouse and Jerry Good-ridge of this place. Thursday evening Mrs. Harold Goodridge and son, David.

On Saturday Mrs. William Brooks and son, Mark, of Shinglehouse called on her mother, 'Mrs. Ethel Kenyon, and Mrs. Delia Beckwith at the Beckwith home. Mrs.

Mike Nichols was a Tuesday caller at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ern Drake. Mr. and Mrs.

Joe Blauvelt were visitors on March 1 at the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Byam, at Horseheads, N. Y. Ha-1 Drake of East Sharon called on his brother, Ern Drake, Wednesday morning.

Donald Drake has 'been confined to his home with a cold and his mother has also been ill for about two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ainesworth of Buffalo are visiting this week at the home of her parents, planning to make maple syrup, but the weather man has not cooperated. Mr.

and Mrs. Vincent Duell and four children of Rochester visited her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jackson, on Saturday. Mr.

Mrs. Rachel Hile of Wellsville, Mrs. Ruby Burch and son, Ralph, called on 'Mrs. Howard Graham on Monday afternoon. Mrs.

Mary Gilliland and Mrs. Mary Graham attended Pomona Grange at Genesee, Wednesday. Prudence Grange will meet with Mr. and Mrs. Halsey Graham Saturday nigiht, March 21.
