William Ctjmback is working day and night with the republican members of the legislature and senate to work up a warm feeling that might place him in the shoes of Hon. Tub Sentinel a short time ago published a sure cure for rheumatism. The cure Was simply to do without eating for one week or ten days. Many of our readers laughed at the idea, and looked upon it as a joke. It was not no with Mr. William Rockhill.

He Uas been troubled with rheumatism for year, and commenced eight days ago to ylte the remedy a thorough trial. He has not eaten a bite of any of food for eight days, and already the rheumatism is leaving him. Father Beuoit. The current ntimberof the New York Freeman's Journal has this to say on the same subject. It say An exceeding mortification has smitten us, overpowered byHirrealer joy.

Father Beuoit was falsely telegraphed all over the United States as having deceased the stupidity of the Fort Wayne agents of the Associated Press, having heard that an aid priest, belonging to Fort Wayne, was dead, jumped to the conclusion that, as the oldest priest, by office, was Father Itenolt, it was he that had departed. Within the week we will hand to Mr. Simonton, general manager of the associated presa, a leather medal, cut from an old gaiter, with request to have it forwarded to the agent of the associated press at Fort Wayne, as a mark of our "distinguished apprecia tion" on his incompetence for his post! Very heavy on our heart, on December fell the Associated Pres9 dispatch, to all the papers, announcing that ''Father Julien Henoit, of Fort Wayne, died yesterday morning, very suddenly, of apoplexy." First of all, then, thank God, Father Benoit is still left to work for his Lord and for the faithful, and to gather farther merits. As, lsst week, mistakenly, we said so much to wound him, we will add to it by the words of his last previous letter to us, November 20, that we had received as part of a fuller notice of him. "I have reached the end of my seventy second year, enjoy pretty good health, and try to do what I can to obtain a good christian, Catholic and sacerdotal death." We care nothing, so far as we are concerned, for the blunder we made, in, for once, trusting newspaper re' porta.

We do feel deeply pained At the annoyances the ante mortuary notice must cause to its subject. But what we do Having gone in so far, it Is easier to go on, than retreat. Or. shall we tell a pack of liest Say Father Benoit was a very common sort of a man, etc We can not ilo itf But; by half Way betrayal. pf onfl deuce, we will publish the denial of the death of Father Benoit, in a note nevermeant for publication rbut that was not It 'reveals the kind of man he is: FATHER BBNOIT'S LETTER.

Fort Wayne, Dec. 10, 1880. Dkar McMastkb: Yesttrday evening I received your valuable and well appreciated Jontnal and what was my surprise to find in it a long and eulogistic obituary of Very Rev. Father Julien Benoit, V. Q.

You must own, this time, you have been the victim of the immense Crowd of the unfaithful and careless reporters of the American press. You are quite excusable, however. It is natural to expect the demise of old people, and when it ia announced, it is readily believed. There is something in your eulogy that I will not easily forgive. It is so grandiloquent, inflated and exaggerUed, that lean not, by any possibility, recognize myself, being in reality whim rt nan www.

You desire some further account of me. I would be the proper man to give it, and if I should speak the naked truth, how you would have to lower yotir tone, and to 'Bing quite another song! Thank, nevertheless, for your good feelings towards poor me, aud rely on my prayers, unworthy as they may be and on the warm friendship of your devoted J. Bknoit, V. O. 're Urap Wine.
