They won three games, lost one, tied one. VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, Anything this homely has got to be good. The VW Station Wagon may look silly.

But it's so sensible, it makes all the others look even sillier. We started by chipping away at every senseless old idea we could find. Hoods didn't seem to be doing anything useful, for example, so we don't have one. The engine is tucked in back instead. We saved an inch here and an inch there and got a machine that holds nearly twice what regular wagons hold: over a ton.

The VW holds 9 people, not 6. When you toke out the middle seat, it holds 6 anyway. Plus a piano. You like windows? There are 21. Doors? 2 huge and 3 very huge.

The VW runs for next to nothing, and you don't have to go into hock for life to buy one. You just can't find anything frivolous or flimsy or merely for the sake of looks. Because the rule works both ways: Anything this good has got to be homely. Lawrence Service Center, Inc. N.

Salisbury Blvd. Decatur Ave. SALISBURY, MARYLAND DEALER Harrington Wi-Hi's Unsung Heroes Are Many The defen ive players on the Wicomico High football team are still taking bows. These unsung heroes usually take a back seat to the ball carriers, and pass catchers, the fellows who do the scoring. BUT NOT so in the opening season 12-8 win over Forest Park here on Friday night.

The defensive performers stood out like tall pine trees in a tomato patch. Four of this distinguished group are up from the 1963 Jayvees including Jack Jones, halfback; Bill Durborow, backer; Wayne Evans, lineand Bob Thornton, an end. Bennett High gridders are sure to get a lot of attention on pass defense during practice this week for its game Friday night at Havre de Grace High.

Coach Robert Yobst got an eye-full of the Havre De Grace team during its 19 to 14 loss Friday night to Tatnall High of Wilmington. "Yes, we plan to stress pass and pass rush," Yobst declared. "Tom Heymiller, the Havre de Grace quarterback passes more than the pros, believe me. He can throw with accuracy, too, and is just about 75 per cent of the team attack." Havre de Grace, a 19-14 loser to Tatnall High, won its opener two weeks ago over Elkton High, 20-12. James M.

But that's his usual approach to a game with Wicomico High. The long-time rivalry between these schools is continued Friday night in Laurel. "I HONESTLY can't tell you my starting lineup for this Big George declared. "That's particularly true of the defense.

Remember we're rebuilding. Of 23 lettermen there's only seven carryovers. There's only three regulars on offense among this group." Schollenberger threw up just about the same smoke screen a year ago, and his Bulldogs clawed the Indians, 26-6. This was the worst whipping the tribe received all season. Schollenberger, approaching, his 35th season of coaching all at Laurel High said the '64 team would be built around the three returning lettermen.

A pleasant surprise for Coach Squires this fall was the addition Bond, a transfer from Florida. He played defensive end, and also did a creditable job in punt coverage.

Squires understandably spent an enjoyable weekend with his family. It was the first opening season win in five years, and the first triumph over est Park High in five seasons. But this triumph is history now. UPCOMING IS a tough one Friday night at Laurel Coach George Schollenberger's ensemble is always difficult to handle. In fact, the Indians haven't whipped the Bulldogs in four years.
